KAILUA-KONA, HAWAII – A Kona fishing charter boat captain died today after being fatally injured by a broadbill swordfish he had just speared in Honokohau small boat harbor on Hawaii Island

Honolulu – When the 55-foot sailing vessel Doubloon broke apart off Mission Beach in Laie, it left a 1/2 mile long path of debris. Today staff from the DLNR Land Division and Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR) used trash cans, rakes, an ATV and sheer manpower to remove several truckloads of wood, plastic and other materials left after the boat became disabled and sank early Tuesday morning. The debris was so extensive and its path was so long that crews plan to return tomorrow to finish up their work.

Kona-Kailua – He’s known as B-18 and for the past week this endangered Hawaiian monk seal has been spotted repeatedly swimming in and around boats at Honokohau Small Boat Harbor on Hawaii Island. He’s feeding on fish scraps that have been thrown overboard. This has prompted the DLNR Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR) to remind people that it is against the law to dispose of fish scraps in state waters.

  The Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR) has established an advisory committee for Maunalua Bay.  DOBOR hopes that it will be a successful venue for the users of Maunalua Bay and the surrounding community to provide their input on the regulation and management of this ocean resource.  ...

Kailua-Kona – Heavy usage of Hawaii Island’s Kahaluu Bay is prompting the DLNR Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR) to propose rule changes for specific ocean recreation activities in the bay.

HONOLULU -- The Department of Land and Natural Resources will hold a public hearing next week on an administrative rule amendment regarding holiday weekend bans on alcohol and drugs at the Kaneohe Sandbar. It applies only to three-day holiday weekends that include Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day.

HONOLULU – New fees and permit requirements are now in effect for commercial recreational operations in state small boat harbors, facilities, and near shore waters. Any company or individual conducting commercial activity is now required to contact the DLNR Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR) for a permit.
