MOST STATE PARKS AND FOREST LANDS REOPEN TOMORROW AS OLIVIA DEPARTS
Some Openings Delayed for Drying and Assessment
(Honolulu) – The majority of Hawai‘i State Parks and lands under the jurisdiction of the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) reopen tomorrow as Tropical Storm Olivia moves away from the islands. Parks and forests lands were closed in the interest of public safety.
DLNR Division of State Parks:
Maui
- ʻIao Valley State Monument & Makena State Park reopen 9/13.
- Waiʻanapanapa State Park remains closed due to damage through at least 9/14.
Hawai‘i island
- All parks open
Oʻahu
- All parks open
- Nuʻuanu Pali State Wayside (Pali Lookout) is closed due to high winds and fallen trees. Likely reopening 9/13
- Ka’ena Point State Park, Mokuleʻia section closed to vehicle access due to anticipated rains and saturated roadways. Pedestrian access is allowed.
Kauaʻi
- All parks open
- Hāʻena State Park and Nāpali Coast State Wilderness Park remain closed since April flooding
All DOFAW lands on all islands are reopening. All forest users are reminded to remain vigilant and watch for hazards associated with wind and heavy rainfall. Please report downed trees, trail washouts and other damage or hazards on the DOFAW Na Ala Hele website: hawaiitrails.hawaii.gov
