- 7/10/24 – HAWAI‘I ISLAND ADVISORY COUNCILS LOOK TO FILL VACANCIES(HILO, HAWAIʻI) – The DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW), in cooperation with the U.S. Forest Service (USFS), is accepting applications for vacant seats on the Laupāhoehoe and Puʻuwaʻawaʻa Advisory Councils on Hawaiʻi Island.
- 7/1/24 – TWO MAUI MEN ARRESTED ON SUSPICION OF NIGHT HUNTING FROM ROAD WITHIN OPRAH’S RANCH(WAILUKU, MAUI) – Just before midnight on Friday, June 21, officers from the DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE) stopped two men after observing them allegedly using a spotlight for hunting purposes.
- 7/1/24 – PAYING HOMAGE TO THE LAST ‘AKIKIKI IN THE WILD(Alaka‘i Plateau, Kaua‘i) – When a group of men hiked into a remote mountain valley in April, they knew it could be the last time they saw an ‘akikiki in the wild.
- 6/21/24 – MAKAPU‘U TRAIL AND PARKING LOT TO BE CLOSED ON JUNE 25(HONOLULU) – The Kaiwi State Scenic Shoreline (state park) and Makapuʻu Lighthouse Trail will be closed on Tuesday, June 25 from 6:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. for removal of de-energized power lines.
- 6/20/24 – FIRST RECORDED MONK SEAL BIRTH AT SAND ISLAND(HONOLULU) – Hawaiian monk seal Rocky (RH58) gave birth to a pup overnight. Today, Rocky and her pup rested on a beach at Sand Island State Recreation Area (SRA) on O‘ahu.
- 6/20/24 – PARTIAL CLOSURE OF POLIHALE STATE PARK IN EFFECT(POLIHALE STATE PARK, KAUA‘I) – On Monday, the protection and restoration of the sensitive dune system at Polihale State Park began. Poʻoahonu (commonly known as Queen’s Pond) will be closed Mondays through Fridays while dune protection measures are ongoing. The restoration area will be open on weekends.
- 6/19/24 – WAILUA FOREST MANAGEMENT ROAD (LOOP ROAD) CLOSED(LĪHUʻE, KAUA‘I) - The Wailua Forest Management Road, “Loop Road” in the Līhuʻe -Koloa Forest Reserve will remain closed through the end of the year due to hazardous and impassable conditions caused by storm damage.
- 6/18/24 – APPLICATIONS OPEN FOR KAULUNANI COMMUNITY FORESTRY GRANTSHONOLULU – Hawai‘i communities and organizations are encouraged to apply for Kaulunani forestry grants that promote trees in places where people live, work, learn and play. The DLNR Kaulunani Urban & Community Forestry Program is providing support to entities that promote the protection and enhancement of urban and community forests in their community spaces.
- 6/17/24 – BE PONO CAMPAIGN ENCOURAGES RESPONSIBLE OUTDOOR RECREATIONHONOLULU — Summer in Hawaiʻi brings opportunities for families to get outside and interact with amazing natural resources. As you head outdoors to hike, camp, view wildlife, or spend time with pets, the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) asks residents and visitors to engage with nature responsibly and respectfully through a new awareness campaign featuring its mascot, Pono the Nēnē.
- 6/13/24 – FIREFIGHTERS KEEP AN EYE ON KAUA‘I BRUSH FIRE OVERNIGHT(WAIMEA, KAUA‘I) - Quick actions by firefighters from the Kaua‘i Fire Department (KFD) and the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW), kept a fast-moving brush fire above Waimea, Kaua‘i, from spreading beyond an estimated 300 acres. It is called the Hukipo fire.
