- 6/18/24 – APPLICATIONS OPEN FOR KAULUNANI COMMUNITY FORESTRY GRANTSHONOLULU – Hawai‘i communities and organizations are encouraged to apply for Kaulunani forestry grants that promote trees in places where people live, work, learn and play. The DLNR Kaulunani Urban & Community Forestry Program is providing support to entities that promote the protection and enhancement of urban and community forests in their community spaces.
- 6/17/24 – BE PONO CAMPAIGN ENCOURAGES RESPONSIBLE OUTDOOR RECREATIONHONOLULU — Summer in Hawaiʻi brings opportunities for families to get outside and interact with amazing natural resources. As you head outdoors to hike, camp, view wildlife, or spend time with pets, the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) asks residents and visitors to engage with nature responsibly and respectfully through a new awareness campaign featuring its mascot, Pono the Nēnē.
- 6/13/24 – FIREFIGHTERS KEEP AN EYE ON KAUA‘I BRUSH FIRE OVERNIGHT(WAIMEA, KAUA‘I) - Quick actions by firefighters from the Kaua‘i Fire Department (KFD) and the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW), kept a fast-moving brush fire above Waimea, Kaua‘i, from spreading beyond an estimated 300 acres. It is called the Hukipo fire.
- 6/5/24 – POLOLŪ TRAIL CLOSED FRIDAY IN HONOR OF TŪTŪ CHERYL SPROAT(KOHALA, HAWAʻI) - The Pololū Trail will be closed temporarily on Friday, June 7, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This includes the limited parking area, which will be used for cultural and ceremonial protocols to honor the passing of Tūtū Cheryl Sproat, a pillar of the North Kohala community.
- 5/20/24 – NEW EDUCATIONAL KIOSK UNVEILED AT DIAMOND HEAD STATE MONUMENT(HONOLULU) – Waikīkī Elementary students led an oli (chant) that echoed through the tunnel entrance to Diamond Head (Lēʻahi) State Monument this morning, to celebrate the culmination of a year-long project that partnered the school with the DLNR Division of State Parks (DSP).
- 5/16/24 – HEARING SCHEDULED FOR KAUA‘I WATER USE AND DEVELOPMENT PLAN UPDATE(LĪHU‘E) –The state Commission on Water Resource Management (CWRM) will host a community hearing next Tuesday, May 21, focused on the Kauaʻi Water Use and Development Plan (KWUDP) update. The purpose of the hearing is to gather public comment and those interested are encouraged to attend in-person or online.
- 5/14/24 – FAMILIES FIND FUN AT THE ‘KIDS TO PARKS DAY’ EVENT AT LĒʻAHI, DIAMOND HEAD STATE MONUMENTHONOLULU — Keiki of all ages are invited to find their own adventure as they explore the iconic Diamond Head State Monument, on Kids to Parks Day, Saturday May 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- 5/13/24 – AKAKA FALLS STATE PARK TO TEMPORARILY CLOSE WEEKDAYS STARTING MAY 15(HILO, HAWAIʻI) – Starting on Wednesday, Akaka Falls State Park on Hawaiʻi Island will temporarily close on weekdays to undergo rockfall mitigation work. The DLNR Division of State Parks has contracted Prometheus Construction for the project, which is expected to run through the end of the month.
- 5/13/24 – NEW CURATOR FOR MAUNA ‘ALA CHOSENHONOLULU –The Department of Land and Natural Resources is pleased to announce that Doni Leināʻala Hanuna Pahukoa Chong has been selected as the new Curator of the Royal Mausoleum State Monument at Mauna ‘Ala on O‘ahu. Ms. Chong becomes the 18th curator of the Royal Mausoleum.
- 5/10/24 – GOVERNOR’S PROCLAMATION ENCOURAGES COLLECTIVE ACTION AGAINST THREATS FROM INVASIVE SPECIES(HONOLULU) – At today’s proclamation ceremony celebrating Hawaiʻi Invasive Species Awareness Month (HISAM), Governor Josh Green, M.D., helped bring focus to the risks that invasive species pose to the environmental and economic health of Hawaiʻi, the good work taking place to combat them, and the importance of a cooperative approach in the effort.
