- 5/8/25 – LONG LINE FISHING VESSEL SEIZED AFTER ALLEGED OPERATIONS IN STATE WATERSKAILUA-KONA, Hawai‘i Island – Officers from the DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE) Hawai‘i Branch Marine Unit have seized a fishing vessel after receiving multiple complaints about longline fishing occurring in the Hawai‘i State Territorial Sea, comprising 3,069 square miles of water, that extends 12 nautical miles around the state.
- 5/6/25 – FIRST TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF KA‘IWA RIDGE TRAIL FOR LITTLE FIRE ANT TREATMENTHONOLULU — The Ka‘iwa Ridge Trail, popularly known as the Lanikai Pillbox Trail, will close for Little Fire Ant (LFA) treatment from 6-10 a.m. tomorrow, May 7. Several agencies including the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW), the O‘ahu Invasive Species Committee (OISC), and the Hawai‘i Department of Agriculture are partnering in the effort to control LFA at this location.
- 5/1/25 – MAY IS HAWAIʻI INVASIVE SPECIES AWARENESS MONTHHONOLULU – May is Hawaiʻi Invasive Species Awareness Month (HISAM). The campaign is in its eighth year, raising awareness of the serious threats invasive species pose to all aspects of life in Hawaiʻi and celebrating the work of those who help protect our islands.
- 4/25/25 – TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF POLOLŪ TRAIL AND LOOKOUT MAY 3NORTH KOHALA, Hawaiʻi Island – In partnership with the Protect Pololū ʻOhana (PPO), the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife Nā Ala Hele Trail and Access Program announces a temporary closure of Pololū Trail and its associated areas for maintenance. Pololū Trail will be closed to all public access on Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- 4/23/25 – KAUA‘I SANCTUARY IS HUGELY POPULAR WITH NATIVE AND TRANSPACIFIC WATER BIRDSKAWAIʻELE BIRD SANCTUARY, Kaua‘i – West Kaua‘i’s Mānā Plain is attracting larger numbers of native waterbirds and migratory shore birds than DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) biologist Jason Vercelli has ever seen in his 18 years of work in the wetlands.
- 4/22/25 – NATIVE TREES CENTER STAGE AT EARTH DAY PLANTING CEREMONYHONOLULU — The grounds of Washington Place now have additional native vegetation, as Governor Josh Green M.D., First Lady Jaime Kanani Green, and DLNR Chair Dawn Chang joined students from St. Andrew’s School in a community Earth Day planting ceremony.
- 4/17/25 – PUAʻA KAʻA STATE WAYSIDE IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT SET TO BEGIN APRIL 21WAILUKU, Maui – A rehabilitation project to improve facilities at the Puaʻa Kaʻa State Wayside, a scenic rest stop and picnic area on Maui’s Hāna Highway, is set to begin next Monday, April 21 and run through May 12, 2025.
- 4/14/25 – ʻALALĀ LEARN ON THE FLY IN A MAUI FORESTKĪPAHULU FOREST RESERVE, Maui – Five months after release into the Kīpahulu Forest Reserve in East Maui, a cohort of five ʻalalā (Hawaiian crows) is healthy and continues to discover and practice the instinctual behaviors unique to the species.
- 4/2/25 – HAWAIIAN MONK SEAL PEAK PUPPING SEASON UNDERWAYHONOLULU – The number of endangered Hawaiian monk seals born in the main Hawaiian Islands is growing. So too, are the chances of pups and their mothers interacting with people.
- 3/25/25 – DREDGING WORK AT MĀLA BOAT RAMP STARTS NEXT WEEKLAHAINA, Maui – The DLNR Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR) has awarded a contract to American Marine Corporation for dredging work to remove accumulated sediment at the Māla Boat Ramp and entrance channel, which will include temporary stockpiling and upland disposal/reuse of dredged material.
