- 04/02/18 – ʻAlalā Naming Contest Begins Online April 9th For Next Release Birds; Connections School 5th Graders Proposed Hawaiian Names(Hilo, Hawai‘i) – In Mrs. Wines’ fifth grade classroom recently, 21 students were hard at work drawing pictures of ʻAlalā, the Hawaiian crow that’s been extinct in the wild for nearly two decades. Their drawings are part of their assignment to come up with Hawaiian names for the next set of 12 birds scheduled to be released later this year.
- 03/28/18 – Updated Rules Proposed For State’s Forest Reserve System; People have dozens of ways to make their voices heard(HONOLULU) - In light of evolving natural resource concerns and the needs of managers and people, the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) is proposing updates to rules regulating activities within Hawaii’s Forest Reserve System. DOFAW is now inviting input and comments.
- 03/21/18 – Instream Uses For West Maui Streams Guaranteed By Historic Decision; Traditional and Customary Hawaiian Rights Are Protected(Wailuku, Maui) – Instream values for four West Maui streams are now protected following a decision yesterday by the Hawai‘i Commission on Water Resource Management (CWRM). The decision was made at the conclusion of a half-day-long hearing in which more than three dozen people testified.
- 03/21/18 – Joint Law Enforcement Operation Removes Illegal Squatters From State Lands On Kaua‘i(Lihue) - Two dozen officers from the DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE), the Kaua‘i Police Dept., and State Sheriffs removed a total of five people from two parcels of DLNR land this morning. . In the week’s leading up to today’s operation the squatters were offered services to help them find permanent housing, but they declined.

- 03/16/18 – Multiple Improvements Under Way At Kua Bay Section Of Kekaha Kai State ParkKONA, HAWAI‘I -- A park improvement project expected to take three months has begun at the Maninʻōwali (Kua Bay) section of Kekaha Kai State Park in Kona, Hawaiʻi. The work consists of addition of a new beach access stairway, additional rinsing showers, picnic tables, and repairs and upgrades to the existing restroom facility. The project is expected to be completed by July 1, 2018.

- 03/14/18 – “Save A Bird–Swat A Skeeter” Campaign Seeks Public Help To Stamp Out Avian Malaria In Kauaʻi Forest BirdHANAPEPE, KAUA‘I – To help battle the spread of avian malaria in the native forest birds of the Garden Island, the Kauaʻi Forest Bird Recovery Project (KFBRP) is launching a crowdfunding campaign today. They are seeking to raise $50,000 to support field teams that monitor the birds, and seek out and eradicate local mosquito populations.
- 03/14/18 – DLNR Seeks Interest For The Demolition Of Existing Hotel And Construction Of New Hotel At Banyan Drive, Hilo, HawaiiHONOLULU -- The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR), Land Division, has issued a Request for Interest (RFI) relating to the former Uncle Billy’s Hilo Bay Hotel site, more recently known as the Pagoda Hilo Bay Hotel, located in Hilo, Hawaii, on Tax Map Keys: (3) 2-1-005: 033, 034, 035 and 045 (Site). The total land area of the Site is approximately 1.83 acres, more or less.
