- 05/06/17 – Hawai‘i Marks Start of Wildlife Season with A Party, Demonstration & Education(Kailua-Kona) - Compared to large mainland wildfires, Hawai‘i’s are relatively small. Yet the percentage of land mass burned each year in the islands is equal to or exceeds the acreage burned in many western states.
- 05/04/17 – DLNR Announces 2017 Open Fishing Season Starting June 17 for Rainbow Trout at Koke‘e Public Fishing Area on Kaua‘iLIHU‘E – The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) announces an open fishing season for rainbow trout in the Koke‘e Public Fishing Area (PFA) on Kaua‘i, beginning Saturday, June 17, 2017.
- 04/29/17 – Rescue, Rehab and Release For Kaua‘i Pueo, Young Hawaiian Short-Eared Owl Flying Free(Lihue, Kaua‘i) – After more than a month of rehabilitation a pueo (Hawaiian Short-Eared Owl) was released late yesterday on private ranch land in west Kaua‘i. The release site is near to where the young bird was rescued in late March and taken to the Save our Shearwaters (SOS) facility at the Kaua‘i Humane Society.
- 04/28/17 – DLNR Announces Animal Control Activities and Temporary Closure of Mauna Kea Forest Reserve, Mauna Kea Ice Age NAR, Palila Mitigation Lands, and Ka‘ohe Game Management AreaHILO -- The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) will conduct animal control activities specifically for trapping mouflon/feral sheep hybrids; staff hunting, and/or aerial shooting from helicopters for feral goats, feral sheep, mouflon and mouflon/feral sheep hybrids within palila critical habitat in the Mauna Kea Forest Reserve (Unit A), Mauna Kea Ice Age Natural Area Reserve (Unit K), Palila Mitigation Lands, and the Ka‘ohe Game Management Area (Unit G) on the island of Hawai‘i.
- 04/25/17 – Lobster And Kona Crab Season Closes Monday, May 1HONOLULU – If you love your fresh-caught local lobster or Kona crab, remember the closed season for ula (spiny lobster), ula papapa (slipper lobster) and Kona crab runs from May 1 through the end of August. During that time it's illegal to take, possess, or sell these shellfish.

- 01/27/17 – Mala Wharf and Boat Ramp Tenants Required To Renegotiate LeasesHONOLULU - The Department of Land and Natural Resources is asking current Mala Wharf tenants to contact its Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation, Property Management Branch so they can receive information about keeping their storage rental agreements in force, following the reissuing of a one-year revocable permit (RP) for that property. A&K Ventures, LLC will begin management of dry-land boat and trailer storage at Mala Wharf on Maui, on March 1, 2017.

- 01/26/17 – Injured Pueo Rescued By Trio Of Citizens And DOCARE Officer(HONOLULU) – When 7-year-old Malia Rillamas first spotted the bird, she pointed it out to her dad Jonathan. The family, from Haleiwa, pulled off the country road on O‘ahu’s north shore on the afternoon of Jan. 15, 2017 to see if they could help. A short time later Brian Smith of Wahiawa also pulled over. Together the trio watched as the pueo (Hawaiian short-eared owl), hopped across the road and ultimately into a deep roadside ditch. They discussed what to do and who to call and eventually called 9-1-1 which put them in touch with the DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE).
