HONOLULU – Warning signs will be installed starting next week, to alert hikers about the possible presence of unexploded ordnance (UXO) at the start of several popular hiking trails in Maunawili Valley, which were once a part of a former military training camp located on the windward side of O‘ahu.
HONOLULU – Just in time for National Trails Day, on Saturday, June 4, 2016, Hawaii’s Nā Ala Hele Trail and Access Program is launching a new website with cutting-edge features and a new design making it the prime resource for state forest trail hikers in Hawaii. National Trails Day is the largest celebration of trails and the thousands of volunteers who maintain trails across the country.
HONOLULU -- The Department of Land and Natural Resources has closed a portion of the Makiki Valley hiking trail during weekday hours for approximately three weeks to carry out work to mitigate rock hazards exposed by a landslide in early July.

KAHULUI -- The Board of Land and Natural Resources (BLNR) today authorized the Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) to seek bids to conduct an archaeological inventory survey (AIS) and environmental review (EA) necessary to explore a proposed land exchange agreement between the state and Haleakala Ranch that that the department believes will ensure public access to a disputed hiking trail, and create a new access route to two large forest reserves on the leeward slope of Haleakala.
A brown water advisory has being issued for the east-north east areas of the island of Kauai, including Hā'ena and Kē'ē Beach. As a health precaution, the public is advised to stay out of flood waters and storm water. If coastal waters are turbid and brown, stay out.
