(PU‘U MAKA‘ALA NATURAL AREA RESERVE) – This high-elevation Natural Area Reserve is one of six locales on Hawai‘i Island where teams from the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) and the University of Hawai‘i Pacific Cooperative Studies Unit (PCSU) are trapping mosquitoes to detect the presence of avian malaria.

These are not your typical home assessors who determine the value of your place, but specially trained people who will conduct free reviews of how safe a property and its structures are from the threat of wildfires.

(HONOLULU) – Certification permits, issued by the DLNR Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR), have long been required for surf and sailboard instructors, catamaran and canoe captains and second captains, and commercial motorboat operators, operating in Waikīkī.

(HONOLULU) – For nearly a decade, the DLNR Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR) has grappled with amendments to Hawai‘i Administrative Rules (HAR) regarding commercial manta ray viewing operations at two locations in the West Hawai‘i Ocean Recreation Management Area (ORMA).

Many of the injured birds and bats that arrive here were hurt by things people created, like golf balls, power lines, cars, guns, and poisons. Add cats, dogs, mongoose, and rats to the long list of things that threaten both forest birds and seabirds.
