- 04/05/23 – THREE-AGENCY SWEEP OF UNCLE BILLY’S RESULTS IN CITATIONS AND ARRESTS(HILO, HAWAI‘I) – A dawn sweep of the condemned and seriously dilapidated former Uncle Billy’s Hotel and Resort, on Banyan Drive, resulted in the arrest of two people on outstanding warrants and ten citations for simple trespass.

- 03/28/23 – DOCARE REFERS 33 DOLPHIN HARASSEMENT CASES TO FEDERAL LAW ENFORCEMENT(KONA, HAWAI'I ISLAND) – DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE) officers initiated cases against a large group of swimmers actively pursuing a pod of dolphins in Hōnaunau Bay Sunday morning, during a routine patrol in the South Kona District.
- 03/25/23 – FAMILY OF GOOD SAMARITANS SINGLED OUT FOR RECOVERY OF NĒNĒ GOSLING(HILO, HAWAI'I ISLAND) – A nēnē family was reunited and relocated last week after an illegal capture and removal of its gosling from Wailoa River State Recreation Area in Hilo.
- 03/25/23 – ENDANGERED FOREST BIRDS TO RECEIVE PROTECTION FROM AVIAN MALARIA ON MAUI(HONOLULU) – Friday, the state Board of Land and Natural Resources (BLNR) unanimously approved the Final Environmental Assessment (EA) to employ landscape-scale mosquito suppression in critical forest bird habitat to reduce mosquito populations in the dense, wet forests of east Maui.
- 03/23/23 – HILO WOMAN CITED AFTER TAKING NĒNĒ GOSLING FROM STATE PARK(HILO, HAWAI'I ISLAND) – 57-year-old Meiqin Chen of Hilo was cited this morning by the DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE) after removing a nēnē gosling from Wailoa River State Recreation Area in Hilo.
- 03/23/23 – “SYMPHONY OF THE HAWAIʻI FORESTS” GROWS STUDENTS’ PILINA WITH TREES(HONOLULU) – Next month, the Hawai‘i Symphony Orchestra will host special performances for students weaving together music, art, science, and storytelling. “Symphony of the Hawai‘i Forests” is a collaboration including the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW), the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, Hālau ʻŌhiʻa, and others to strengthen our pilina (relationships) with each other, our forests, and the arts.
- 03/10/23 – NEW CORAL DISEASE IS KILLING CORALS QUICKLY IN FLORIDA AND THE CARIBBEAN(HONOLULU) – Insidious is the best way to describe Stony Coral Tissue Loss Disease (SCTLD). First discovered off the coast of Florida in 2014, it has now spread along the entire coast of the Sunshine State and has been detected in 23 countries and territories in the Greater Caribbean Basin. This disease kills coral tissue at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per day, which quickly kills the coral, and can affect more than 30 different species of coral.
- 03/07/23 – MAUNA LOA FOREST RESERVE REOPENS FOLLOWING NOVEMBER ERUPTION(HILO) – The Mauna Loa Forest Reserve will reopen effective immediately, months following the eruption of Mauna Loa. The DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) is also announcing the immediate reopening of Unit A of the Mauna Kea Forest Reserve and Game Management Area South of Daniel K. Inouye Highway across from the Gil Kahele Recreation Area, also known as the “slice.”
- 03/06/23 – REPORTING HOTLINE LIGHTS UP WITH CALLS ABOUT MAN PURSUING A HUMPBACK WHALE(HONOLULU) – 65-year-old David Jiménez of Maui was cited this morning at Kealakekua Bay on Hawai‘i Island, after the DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE) received numerous calls reporting alleged wildlife harassment. Jiménez was allegedly actively pursuing an adolescent humpback whale and dolphins inside Kealakekua Bay State Historical Park.
