- 10/27/23 – THE NEXT TOOL FOR SAVING KAUA‘I FOREST BIRDS FROM EXTINCTION INTRODUCED(KOKE‘E-WAIMEA CANYON STATE PARK, KAUA‘I) – A dozen researchers and technicians on Thursday began releasing incompatible male mosquitoes to try and stop the near-certain extinction of at least four species of Native Hawaiian honeycreepers. A first for Hawai‘i, the release took place just off a road on the Alaka‘i Plateau on Kaua‘i.
- 10/27/23 – STATE ANNOUNCES DRAFT ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT THAT PROPOSES PILOT RELEASE OF ʻALALĀ IN EAST MAUI(HONOLULU) – The DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) has prepared a draft Environmental Assessment with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for a pilot release of ʻalalā, or Hawaiian crow, on east Maui. The draft EA is available for public comment for a 37-day period.
- 10/27/23 – ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE 2023-2024 GAME BIRD HUNTING SEASON(HONOLULU) – The DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) announces the opening of the 2023-2024 Game Bird Hunting Season on Saturday, November 4, 2023. The fall game bird hunting season will run through Sunday, January 28, 2024. A valid hunting license and a game bird stamp are required for all game bird hunting on public and private lands.

- 09/08/23-GRANTS AVAILABLE FOR URBAN AND COMMUNITY FOREST PROJECTS(HONOLULU) – Organizations across Hawai‘i are encouraged to apply for grants to protect and enhance our urban and community trees and forests. The funding source is the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), and grants are made available from the US Forest Service through Kaulunani, the state’s Urban and Community Forestry Program which is part of the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW).
- 09/1/23-LĀHAINĀ VISUAL ASSETSThe resources below document U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), hazardous materials (HAZMAT) recovery teams working in the Lāhainā impact zone, as well as in the Kula fire area.
- 08/16/23 – DLNR STATEMENT ON RE-ASSIGNMENT OF WATER DEPUTY(HONOLULU) – DLNR is re-deploying First Deputy of the Commission on Water Resource Management (CWRM), Kaleo Manuel, to a different DLNR division. The purpose of this deployment is to permit CWRM and the Department to focus on the necessary work to assist the people of Maui recover from the devastation of wildfires.
- 08/05/23- ALL HANDS EFFORT TO SAVE KAUAʻI BIRDS FROM EXTINCTION(LĪHUʻE) – Bird experts on Kauaʻi are using all the tools in their toolbox to keep critically endangered forest birds from going extinct. One honeycreeper species, ʻakikiki, could disappear from the wild this year due to mosquito-borne avian malaria, with another species, ʻakekeʻe, not far behind.
- 08/04/23- HEALTH AND SAFETY RISKS AT FORMER UNCLE BILLY’S RESORT TO BE ADDRESSED(HILO, HAWAI‘I) – The dilapidated and condemned Uncle Billy’s hotel will have a perimeter fence constructed around the entire property beginning this month.
- 07/29/23- $117,472 FINE LEVIED FOR NAKOA BOAT GROUNDING(HONOLULU) – The Board of Land and Natural Resources (BLNR), on Friday, tentatively approved a proposed settlement by the Albert Trust parties only to pay the fine of $117,472 for the Nakoa boat grounding that damaged over 100 coral colonies and over 1,900 square yards of live rock just outside the Honolua-Mokulēʻia Bay Marine Life Conservation District, on Maui’s west coast.
