- 06/11/23 – DIAMOND HEAD STATE MONUMENT CLOSED TODAY AFTER WATER DISRUPTION(HONOLULU) – The popular Diamond Head State Monument on O‘ahu was cleared at mid-day after the park’s water system had to be shut down.
- 06/8/23 – PLAYBOOK FOR COMMUNITY-LED MANAGEMENT OF HAWAI‘I STATE PARKS UNVEILED(HĀ‘ENA STATE PARK, KAUA‘I) – Today, following the signing of a bill by Governor Josh Green, M.D., facilitating the continued community-based management of this 65-acre state park, a case study on how the community worked together with government and the visitor industry to manage a destination hotspot was unveiled.
- 06/7/23 – WILDFIRE & DROUGHT LOOKOUT! RAMPS UP FOR PREDICTED PROLONGED DROUGHT(HILO, HAWAI‘I ISLAND) – Don’t let the winter’s rains fool you into thinking Hawai‘i won’t experience devastating wildfires anytime soon. As part of the annual Wildfire & Drought LOOKOUT! campaign, forecasters warned that the islands will begin experiencing drought conditions late this summer, that could extend all the way through next winter.
- 06/1/23 – KAUA‘I TEAM TRYING TO SAVE NATIVE HONEYCREEPERS PRESSES ON(ALAKA‘I PLATEAU, KAUA‘I) – From a remote camp, perched on a narrow 3,000-foot cliff, near the top of Wainiha Valley, Justin Hite, and his team from the Kaua‘i Forest Bird Recovery Project (KFBRP), are in the midst of another field season. A season, that is probably the last for the diminutive native Hawaiian honeycreeper, the ‘akikiki.
- 05/31/23 – FIFTY TO SIXTY CORAL COLONIES DAMAGED BY CINDER BLOCK LANE MARKERS(KAILUA-KONA, HAWAI‘I ISLAND) – Sixty-pound cinder blocks placed in the ocean for a Hawai‘i Island canoe regatta last weekend caused a range of damage from minimal-to-significant to approximately 100 coral colonies in Kailua Bay.
- 05/31/23 – HUNTING LICENSES AND STAMPS TO BE ISSUED FOR THE 2023-2024 HUNTING SEASON(HONOLULU) – Effective June 15, 2023, the DLNR will begin issuing hunting licenses and stamps for the new hunting season (July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024).
- 05/30/23 – COMMUNITY HELPS DOCARE SNAG ANOTHER FISHING NET VIOLATOR(HONOLULU) – Citizens continue to step up to report potential resource violations to the DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE).
- 05/29/23 – KAIMANA BEACH TO FULLY OPEN AFTER MONK SEAL RELOCATION(HONOLULU) – Ropes and monk seal caution signs are being removed from Kaimana Beach, after a Hawaiian monk seal pup has been moved, after weaning over the weekend.
- 05/28/23 – TWO DOZEN CITATIONS ISSUED DURING KA‘ENA POINT STATE PARK CLOSING HOURS(HONOLULU) – Eighteen people were cited Saturday night for being in a closed area, in violation of Ka‘ena Point State Park closure hours. Five others were cited for not having special access permits.
