- 03/09/23 – GROUNDED YACHT CAUSED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO LIVE ROCK HABITAT(HONOLUA BAY, MAUI) – A post-grounding damage assessment conducted by divers from the DLNR Division of Aquatic Resources (DAR), found that the yacht Nakoa caused damage to corals and reef live rock covering at least 19,434-square-feet.
- 03/08/23 – HAWAI‘I MARINERS ADVISED TO SECURE VESSELS DURING HIGH WINDS(HONOLULU) – Two boats broke loose from moorings overnight on Maui, due to strong winds. The DLNR Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR) is advising mariners to take steps to ensure their vessels are secure.
- 02/17/23 – HAWAIʻI ISLAND 2023 SPRING BEARDED TURKEY SEASON OPENS NEXT MONTH(HILO) – The 2023 Spring Bearded Turkey Hunting Season will begin on Tuesday, March 1, 2023 and run for 46 consecutive days through Friday, April 15.
- 02/10/23 – HUNTERS ASKED TO HELP PROTECT NATIVE PLANTS AND ANIMALS IN HONOPŪ VALLEY(LĪHU‘E, HI) – The Department of Land and Natural Resources is asking local hunters to help protect rare and endangered plants and birds in upper Honopū Valley on Kaua‘i, especially during a special, three-month period from today through May 10.
- 02/02/23 – RESEARCHERS ARE SURPRISED AND SAD TO FIND MARINE DEBRIS IN 60-TON SPERM WHALE’S STOMACH(HONOLULU) – Marine debris, ingested by a 56-foot-long sperm whale, is believed to be at least a contributing cause to its death. The whale washed up on the reef fronting Lydgate Park on Kaua‘i Friday night. On Saturday, heavy equipment was used to get it onto the beach where researchers from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Health and Stranding Lab, spent 15-hours trying to find clues about its death. Their initial examination of the whale was limited because of its immense size.
- 01/30/23 – $7.1 MILLION AWARDED TO FIGHT INVASIVE SPECIES AND RECOVER RARE NATIVE PLANTS AND WILDLIFE(HONOLULU) – The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Readiness and Environmental Integration Program (REPI) is awarding Hawai‘i $7,123,851 for restoration and recovery projects on O‘ahu, Kaua‘i, and Hawai‘i Island.
- 01/28/23 – MASSIVE INTERAGENCY EFFORT CONTINUES TO MOVE DECEASED 60-TON SPERM WHALE(KAPA‘A, KAUA‘I) - The cause of death of a 56-foot-long, 120,000-pound sperm whale, that appeared on the reef fronting Lydgate Park, won’t likely be determined for some time.

- 01/26/23 – ANNUAL HAWAIIAN BLESSING MARKS BEGINNING OF CRITICAL KAUA‘I FOREST BIRD FIELD SEASON(Hanapēpē, Kaua‘i) - The Kaua‘i Forest Bird Recovery Project (KFBRP) is holding its annual Hawaiian blessing for the 2023 field season, which for at least two species of Hawaiian honeycreepers is a critical year.
- 01/24/23 – PEOPLE-CAUSING NĒNĒ DEATHS(KAHULUI) – A female nēnē was struck and killed by a passenger truck on Haleakalā Highway near the Dairy Road/Keolani Place junction in Kahului last Tuesday. This outcome has become too familiar in recent years and the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) wants to bring awareness to Hawai‘i residents that these human-caused deaths are preventable.
