- 05/5/23 – INPUT INVITED ON MANAGEMENT OF HAWAI‘I’S KAPĀPALA KOA CANOE MANAGEMENT AREA(HONOLULU) – Plans for the Kapāpala Koa Canoe Management Area on Hawai‘i are being shared for input. An online platform has been launched launched to engage stakeholders online.
- 05/5/23 – VIRTUAL MEETING ON POHOIKI BOAT RAMP DREDGING PROJECT INVITES COMMUNITY COMMENT(HONOLULU) – The DLNR Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR) will hold a virtual public meeting to discuss the Draft Environmental Assessment (DEA) for the Pohoiki Boat Ramp Dredging of Volcanic Debris project on Wednesday, May 10, from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. Community participation is encouraged.
- 05/3/23 – PROTECT NATIVE ANIMALS BY KEEPING THEM WILD(HONOLULU) - Native species existed before humans in Hawai‘i and most are found nowhere else in the world. Many are threatened or endangered, due to predation, disease, and habitat loss.
- 05/4/23 – HUNDREDS OF HAWAI‘I HOMEOWNERS CAN BENEFIT FROM FREE WILDFIRE HAZARD ASSESSMENTS(WAIMEA, HAWAI‘I) – If you look at the Kamuela View Estates neighborhood just on the outskirts of Waimea, it’s hard to imagine it could be threatened by wildfire. Yet nearly three years-ago, a fast-moving fire swept down the denuded slopes on the lower flanks of the Kohala mountains.
- 05/3/23 – DLNR AND DOA CONTINUE PARTNERSHIP IN ACT 90 IMPLEMENTION(HONOLULU) – In 2003, the Legislature passed Act 90 which set forth a process for the Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) to transfer non-ag park lands to the Department of Agriculture (DOA) for agricultural production. It requires a cooperative working relationship between both DLNR and DOA and their respective boards. An April 28, DLNR Land Division update to the Board of Land and Natural Resources (BLNR) included compliance with Act 90, current interdepartmental negotiations, and next steps.
- 05/2/23 – DLNR BOATING DIVISION FINED $600,000 FOR WASTEWATER VIOLATIONS…SORT OF(HONOLULU) – The Board of Land and Natural Resources (BLNR) has authorized Chairperson Dawn Chang to sign a settlement agreement between the DLNR Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR), and the Wastewater Branch of the Hawai‘i Dept. of Health (DOH).
- 05/2/23 – SALVAGE OF GROUNDED VESSEL AT LĀHAINĀ BEGINS WITH PROTECTION OF CULTURALLY SIGNIFICANT BIRTHING STONE(LĀHAINĀ, MAUI) – The salvage of the grounded vessel, Kuuipo, began today with the placement of large sandbags between the boat and the Hauola stone (birthing stone), less than eight-feet away.
- 04/28/23 – NEARLY 700 ACRES TO BE ADDED TO STATE LEGACY LAND INVENTORY(HONOLULU) – Two properties on O‘ahu, one on Kaua‘i, and one on Moloka‘i are being added to the DLNR 2023 Legacy Land Conservation Program.
- 04/25/23 – DLNR CHAIR MEETS WITH HAWAI‘I ISLAND FERAL CAT ADVOCATES(WAIKOLOA, HAWAI‘I) – At the direction of Governor Josh Green M.D., DLNR Chair Dawn Chang met today with the principals of ABayKitties, the organization that has provided cat food at a trio of feeding stations at the Queens’ Marketplace shopping center.
- 04/24/23 – COLLABORATING TO KEEP A RARE NATIVE HAWAIIAN PLANT WILD(HONOLULU) – The windswept ridges of the Waiʻanae range on Oʻahu’s west side are home to some of the rarest native plant species in Hawaiʻi. Earlier this month, staff from the Plant Extinction Prevention Program (PEPP), Laukahi, and the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) visited the area as part of a collaborative project to restore Lobelia oahuensis to the wild. It’s a species endemic to the island.
