- 08/03/16 – Wailuku River Interim Instream Flow Suspension For Maintenance Activities In AugustWAILUKU, MAUI – The Commission on Water Resource Management will be performing work on the waterfall at the Waihe‘e Ditch siphon where it crosses Wailuku River*. The Commission has asked Wailuku Water Company, LLC (WWC) to reduce the amount of water to Wailuku River, in order to perform the work and provide a safe work environment.
- 08/02/16 – DLNR Announce The Opening Of The Kekaha Game Management Area to the 2016 Black-Tailed Deer Season On Kaua‘iLIHU‘E, KAUA‘I -- The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) announces the opening of the Kekaha Game Management Area (KGMA) of Hunting Unit A to black-tailed deer hunting season on the island of Kaua‘i. The Department of Hawaiian Homelands (DHHL) has granted a one year license agreement extension to DLNR, extending to to August 31, 2017.
- 07/29/16 – Wahiawa Freshwater State Recreation Area Reopens Following Installation of Accessibility RenovationsWAHIAWA, O‘AHU – The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) Division of State Parks tomorrow will reopen the Wahiawa Freshwater State Recreation Area, on Walker Avenue, following completion of repaved, restriped, and other improvements of roadway and parking areas in the park made for compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act requirements. The restroom renovation is nearly complete but portable toilets are available for the time being.
- 07/28/16 – Kaua‘i Hunter Education Program Class Registration Clarified; Standby students must call in advance, no walk-ins will be acceptedLIHU‘E -- The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) Hunter Education program, is working to improve class availability and certification options to meet the increased demand for Hunter Education classes on the island of Kaua‘i. Registration for the next available class in October will begin on Monday August 1, 2016.
- 07/28/16 – Harvest and Reforestation Requests For Information At The Waiakea Timber Management Area(HILO) – Hawaii’s forestry industry is being encouraged to provide input for a possible Request for Proposals (RFP) for harvest and reforestation endeavors at the Waiakea Timber Management Area (WTMA) on Hawaii Island. The DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) published a Request for Information (RFI) on July 21, 2016. It asks for guiding information on the resources of interest, markets, products, harvest practices, processing, transportation, financing, etc.
- 07/27/16 – New Trail Opens Celebrating Mauna Kea’s High-Elevation Dry Forest; Visitors Can Experience a Native Ecosystem and its Inhabitants(HILO) – The yellow, white-and-gray palila, a highly endangered Hawaiian honeycreeper, is one of the world’s most isolated birds. It lives only in a small patch of māmane forest on the western slope of Mauna Kea volcano on Hawai‘i Island. With the opening today of the new Palila Forest Discovery Trail, visitors will be now able to see palila and other native species that call this distinctive ecosystem home.
- 07/27/16 – Governor Signs New Rule To Designate 10-Year Fishing Rest Period FOR KA‘ŪPŪLEHU, WEST HAWAI‘IKAILUA-KONA -- Governor David Ige signed a new rule last week to create a new marine reserve at Ka‘ūpūlehu, on the west coast of Hawaii island. The rule will take effect on Friday, July 29.
- 07/27/16 – DLNR Divisions To Provide Assistance and Expertise For Clean-Up(HONOLULU) – When canoe paddlers and other volunteers from Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii arrive to clean up the mess at Keehi Lagoon Beach Park on Oahu tomorrow, staff from the DLNR Divisions of Aquatic Resources (DAR) and Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR) will be on hand to provide expertise and assistance. The beach park is not under State jurisdiction. Beginning in 1953 a series of Executive Orders (EO’s) transferred control of Keehi Lagoon Beach Park and its nearshore waters from the State to the City and County of Honolulu.
- 07/25/16 – Most State Parks, Forests Reopen as Darby Passes Main IslandsHONOLULU – Most state parks and forests on Hawaii, Maui, Oahu and Kauai are reopening as state crews inspect these areas today. Most parks have reported no significant impacts from the storm. Forest areas are being assessed today.
- 07/22/16 – DLNR To Close Areas For Arrival of Tropical Storm DarbyHONOLULU -- The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) is closing state forest and park areas on the islands of Hawaii and Maui, in anticipation of the effects of tropical storm Darby this weekend.
