DOCARE

(Honolulu) – Hawaii-based marine and animal protection organizations have joined forces with the Hawai‘i Dept. of Land and Natural Resources to make it easier for people to report illegal aquarium collecting activity across the state.

(Honolulu) – On Friday, four officers with the DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE) were recognized for their efforts to revive an unconscious, lifeless man at Keehi Small Boat Harbor on O‘ahu in July.

(Honolulu) – During a ceremony today, six experienced law enforcement officers became the first graduates of the DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE) Academy.  Over the course of six weeks the officers, all of whom come from municipal, state or federal police agencies, received immersive training in conservation enforcement. 

(Honolulu) - Just before 10:30 this morning DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources (DOCARE) officers monitoring fishing activities on the first day of the Akule (Big Eye Scad) season, off Haleiwa on O‘ahu’s north shore, began watching the vessel Isao. It is a commercial shark diving boat (North Shore Shark Adventures) based at Haleiwa Small Boat Harbor.  Officers witnessed a crew member holding a bucket and chum the water by throwing fish into the ocean. Several sharks appeared, attracted by the chumming. 

(Hilo) – The DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE) is asking for help in identifying two men they’d like to question in connection with the recent apparent poisonings of several East Hawai‘i streams. Hundreds of dead Tahitian prawns were found in the streams shortly after the men were picked up on surveillance cameras at the Hawai‘i Tropical Botanical Garden.

(Honolulu) – The wreckage of a Robinson R44 helicopter was airlifted out of waist deep water in Kaneohe Bay just before noon today.  Two DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE) officers assisted a rigger from Pacific Helicopters in getting straps and ropes around the chopper, which had turned on one side during or after the accident.

(Manoa) – Over the course of eight hours today, officers from the DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE) contacted and educated more than 100 people concerning the current Manoa Falls Trail closure.

(Honolulu) – In an effort to restore open beach space by removing unauthorized vessels from state unencumbered lands at Lanikai Beach, state boating officials on June 15 posted notice to advise owners of 90 small boats to remove these items or they would be impounded.

(Honolulu) -The U.S. Coast Guard Barbers Point Air Station provided space on a low-flying C-130 plane to DLNR representatives today to look for any green sea turtles that could be trapped by lava flowing into the ocean on the coast near Kapoho Bay and the Pohoiki Boat Ramp.

(Honolulu) – Recent social media posts have shown photos and expressions of concern for sea turtles reportedly trapped or affected by the East Rift Zone Eruption on Hawai‘i island, in the Kapoho and Pohoiki areas.  DLNR and NOAA Fisheries are aware of these postings but so far there has been little actionable information.
