(HONOLULU) - Worried about what to do during a potential wildfire? People living and working in East Honolulu have two opportunities on August 16 to attend a virtual meeting to have wildfire concerns heard and to begin the development of a Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP).

(Waikoloa, Hawai’i) – A fast-moving, wind whipped wildfire on Hawai‘i Island has federal, state, and county firefighters preparing for a prolonged, intense firefight. Called the Leilani fire, Wednesday night it grew from an estimated 700-acres in size to 9,800 acres this afternoon.
(KONA) – A roughly 1,260-acre parcel in Waiea, on Hawai‘i island has been designated as part of the State Natural Area Reserve (NAR) System managed by the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW).
(HONOLULU) - Applications for the 2023 Lānaʻi Axis Deer hunting season will be available for purchase next month. The DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) will begin accepting applications Monday, August 15, 2022.
(LĪHUʻE) – Calling all artists! Next month, DLNR is partnering with Island Conservation to host an art show focused on the natural beauty, native species, and powerful mana of Lehua Island. Entries will be displayed at the Kauaʻi Society of Artists (KSA) art gallery at Kukui Grove August 12-19. All entries must be submitted by Saturday, August 6. Artists of all ages and experience levels are encouraged to create and submit Lehua-inspired art.
(HONOLULU) - Hawaiian Electric Co. (HECO) has stepped up to help reduce the spread of the Rapid ‘Ōhi‘a Death (ROD) disease on Oʻahu through the design, fabrication, and installation of a new style of boot brush station for trailheads. Sean Moura, Hawaiian Electric wildlife biologist, took an existing boot brush design and modified it to be more inviting and user-friendly.
(HONOLULU) – Tuesday was the first of numerous moving days for the O‘ahu Game Bird Rearing Program, transitioning hundreds of chukars and pheasants from the brooder stage to outdoor flight pens.
(KULA) – Access roads and trails in the Kula Forest Reserve remain closed after extensive damage caused by the December 2021 Kona Storm. Unsafe conditions, including washed out gulch crossings and downed trees, have disabled access on the single narrow road that serves the reserve.
(KONA) – Less than a mile upslope from the Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport, lies the 706-acre Pālamanui Forest Preserve. It is a tropical, dryland forest containing some of the best remaining remnant dry forest in Hawai‘i.
(HONOLULU) – Individuals and organizations interested in planting native trees and removing invasive weeds to help with climate resiliency are encouraged to apply to a new grant opportunity.
