(HONOLULU) -The Department of Land and Natural Resources’ Hunter Education Program in partnership with the Honolulu Trap Club will be holding a shotgun shooting basics workshop on Saturday, April 7, 2018 from 11:00am to 3:00pm. The workshop will take place at the Koko Head Shooting Complex, Trap Range, located at: 8102 Kalanianaole Hwy, Honolulu, HI 96825.

Ahead of the Spring game mammal hunting seasons, two simultaneous hands-on workshops will be held on January 13, 2018, from 9:00 am to 1:00pm at Hunter Education classrooms on Oahu and Hawaii Island.

The Department of Land and Natural Resources announces the opening of the 2017-2018 game bird hunting season on Saturday, November 4, 2017. The fall game bird hunting season will run through Sunday, January 28, 2018. A valid hunting license and a game bird stamp are required for all game bird hunting on public and private lands. All game bird hunting is regulated by Hawaii Administrative Rules Title 13, Chapter 122 (see https://hawaii.gov/dlnr/dofaw “Administrative Rules” for all legal hunting days).
The Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) is pleased to announce that application forms for the 2018 Lana‘i Axis deer hunting season, together with instruction sheets, will be available at all DOFAW offices statewide beginning Monday October 2, 2017. Applicants may apply online.
Over $1.1 billion– that’s how much federal funds were made available to states in 2017 for wildlife and sport fish restoration programs. Over $8.1 million alone was made available to Hawaii in 2017! The source of these funds: the Pittman-Robertson (1937) and Dingell-Johnson (1950) Acts administered through the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration Program: https://wsfrprograms.fws.gov/. These Acts impose federal excise taxes on the sale of firearms, handguns, ammunition, archery equipment, fishing tackle, yachts and pleasure craft. Revenue from these taxes goes right back into state wildlife agencies, like the Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) in Hawaii, for wildlife and sport fish restoration projects, education, and shooting range development.

The Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DLNR-DOFAW) is seeking public comment from hunters on its annual statewide hunting survey. The purpose of this annual survey is to assist in improving DLNR’s game management in state public hunting areas. DOFAW manages over one million acres of state land for wildlife-dependent recreation and conservation. Its Hawaii game management program provides opportunities for recreational and subsistence hunting of 16 species of game birds and 6 species of game mammals.
The Department of Land and Natural Resources is pleased to announce the opening of archery, muzzleloader, and regular rifle hunting seasons for feral goats on the island of Kauai. Pursuant to Title 13, Chapter 123 “Rules Regulating Game Mammal Hunting,” the following rules and conditions will be in effect for the hunt.
