HONOLULU -- The Board of Land and Natural Resources (BLNR) today authorized an civil penalty fine of $2,500 and associated administrative costs of $753 to be assessed against Alexander Aquino, of Captain Cook, for violation of State Parks Hawaii Administrative Rule chapter 13-146-68, which prohibits commercial activities in State Parks without a written permit from the board or the Division of State Parks.

KAILUA-KONA -- The Department of Land and Natural Resources will close the Puako boat launch ramp from Tuesday January 7 through Wednesday January 8, for removal of a loading dock which collapsed due to high surf on Dec. 20, 2013.
HONOLULU -- The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) announces the opening of the Waikiki-Diamond Head Shoreline Fisheries Management Area, O‘ahu, to fishing for one year beginning Jan. 1, 2014, and ending Dec.31, 2014. The Fisheries Management Area encompasses the nearshore waters between the ‘Ewa wall of the Waikiki War Memorial Natatorium and the Diamond Head Lighthouse, from the high-water mark on shore to a minimum seaward distance of 500 yards, or to the edge of the fringing reef if one occurs beyond 500 yards.
KAUNAKAKAI – The Department of Land and Natural Resources invites the public to attend an information meeting on Monday, Jan. 6, regarding a community proposal to designate Mo‘omomi as a Community-Based Subsistence Fishing Area. The proposal consists of a management plan and proposed fishing rules to protect the island’s subsistence fisheries for future generations. The meeting will take place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Mitchell Pau‘ole Community Center at 90 Ainoa St. in Kaunakakai.

LIHUE -- The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE) has noticed a significant increase in illegal vending on state land throughout Kauai County and reminds the public that violations are punishable by a fine and/or jail time. Officers have generally observed illegal venders engaged in commercial activities, selling craft items and other merchandise to members of the public. DOCARE has specifically issued citations at Opaekaa Falls and Wailua Falls, both areas under the jurisdiction of Division of State Parks.

The nominating committee will review the applications and send the names of not less than three qualified individuals to the Governor, who will nominate one person for the vacant position.
