(Kaiwi State Scenic Shoreline, O‘ahu) – A little rain fell after sunrise, but the brief shower was a fitting conclusion to the 10th First Day Hike hosted by the DLNR Division of State Parks (DSP).

(HONOLULU) – As one of the best attended First Day Hike events in the country, the trek to the Makapu‘u Overlook for the first sunrise of 2023 is back.

(HILO) – Four times, over the past nine years, Gene Tamashiro of Hilo has been cited or arrested for leading the planting of a so-called “Kanaka Garden” in the middle of the Wailoa River State Recreation Area.

(Sand Island State Recreation Area, Honolulu) – The shoreline on the western side of O‘ahu’s only urban state park, is intended to be a place for residents and visitors to fish and swim and participate in recreational pursuits.

(LĪHU‘E) – The recent detection of a new population of Little Fire Ant (LFA) in Wailua River State Park, was confirmed by a sample submitted by a concerned citizen, showing how essential residents are to the process.

(HONOLULU) – Nestled at the back of Kalihi Valley, staff and volunteers for Ho’oulu ‘Āina work to harvest locally-grown plants for food and indigenous medicine.

(HONOLULU) – Over two years after closing, due to COVID concerns and overuse and abuse issues, Polihale State Park will reopen to overnight camping beginning August 14, 2022. Reservations will be available online starting August 1 and may be made up to 90 days in advance. 

(HONOLULU) – Ahead of reports of a historic South Pacific swell bringing high surf and rough ocean conditions over the weekend, several State beach parks along south-facing shores will be closed.

(LĪHUʻE) – Last summer, national television travel host, Peter Greenberg spent several days on Kaua‘i producing an episode of The Travel Detective: Hidden Gems, which airs on public television stations around the country. The program has begun airing and is the latest to focus national attention on what’s called regenerative tourism.

(LĪHUʻE) - The annual plum harvest begins this Saturday at Kōke‘e State Park on Kaua‘i.
