State Parks

(HĀ‘ENA STATE PARK, KAUA‘I) – Today, following the signing of a bill by Governor Josh Green, M.D., facilitating the continued community-based management of this 65-acre state park, a case study on how the community worked together with government and the visitor industry to manage a destination hotspot was unveiled.

(KAHULUI, MAUI) – Following a nine-month closure, for slope stabilization work, one of the most popular parks in the DLNR Division of State Parks (DSP) system is scheduled to reopen next month. (Hāpuna Beach State Recreation Area, Hawai‘i Island) – Careful progress is being made toward restoration of water service at Hāpuna Beach, to address residents’ concerns. The DLNR Division of State Parks (DSP) is taking a multi-pronged approach consisting of three simultaneous and separate projects now in process to address temporary, short-term fixes as well as a permanent, long-term solution.

(Hāpuna Beach State Recreation Area, Hawai‘i Island) – Water service at this state recreation area has been off and on more than three-dozen times since 2018, due to repeated breaks in its underground lines. The DLNR Division of State Parks (DSP) decided, after spending a lot of time and money trying to remedy chronic leaks, it needed to look at a more long-term fix rather than the band-aid fixes employed over the past five years.”

(WAILUKU) – Over the next two weeks, work is being done at Mākena State Park on Maui to remove large fallen trees and hazardous branches. Due to the large equipment that will be used for this project, the DLNR Division of State Parks (DSP) will be closing off sections of the park.

(Kahului, Maui) - A random act, actually continued acts of kindness, is bringing to light the Aloha spirit demonstrated by a long-time state parks worker.

(Kaiwi State Scenic Shoreline, O‘ahu) – A little rain fell after sunrise, but the brief shower was a fitting conclusion to the 10th First Day Hike hosted by the DLNR Division of State Parks (DSP).

(HONOLULU) – As one of the best attended First Day Hike events in the country, the trek to the Makapu‘u Overlook for the first sunrise of 2023 is back.
