(Maalaea, Maui) – A dozen or more times each season, humpback whales while on their principal breeding and calving grounds within the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary (sanctuary) or nearby waters get spotted entangled in fishing gear or marine debris. In the worst cases this material can kill the animal.

(HONOLULU) – Next Monday (Jan. 9) is Climate Action Day in Hawai‘I and will mark the beginning of Hawai‘i Climate Week. The Hawai‘i Climate Change Mitigation and Adaption Commission (Commission) is organizing the State Climate Conference on this day to explore the challenges and solutions of address climate change through discussions on statewide actions.

(HONOLULU) – DLNR is seeking comments on a proposal to protect nearly 100 unencumbered State land parcels across Hawai'i as part of the State Forest Reserves, Natural Area Reserves, and Wildlife Sanctuaries systems.
