(HONOLULU) – Two properties on O‘ahu, one on Kaua‘i, and one on Moloka‘i are being added to the DLNR 2023 Legacy Land Conservation Program.

(HONOLULU) – On Friday, the state Board of Land and Natural Resources (BLNR) will decide whether to approve the selection of  Banyan Drive Management LLC (BDM) to conduct a $20 million dollar renovation of the former Country Club Condominiums complex. It is one of six buildings on state-owned land, along iconic Banyan Drive in Hilo. 

(HONOLULU) – Over the past month, more than a dozen small-eye throw nets have been confiscated by officers from the Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE) O‘ahu Branch.

(WAIKOLOA, HAWAI‘I) – At the direction of Governor Josh Green M.D., DLNR Chair Dawn Chang met today with the principals of ABayKitties, the organization that has provided cat food at a trio of feeding stations at the Queens’ Marketplace shopping center. 

(HONOLULU) – The windswept ridges of the Waiʻanae range on Oʻahu’s west side are home to some of the rarest native plant species in Hawaiʻi. Earlier this month, staff from the Plant Extinction Prevention Program (PEPP), Laukahi, and the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) visited the area as part of a collaborative project to restore Lobelia oahuensis to the wild. It’s a species endemic to the island.

(SAND ISLAND STATE RECREATION AREA, OʻAHU) – Saturday morning, more than four dozen people helped the DLNR Division of State Parks (DSP) conduct an Earth Day cleanup. Volunteers showed up to help enhance areas around the Sand Island State Recreation Area roadway, clean up the shoreline, and learn about the impacts of single-use plastics and marine debris.

(WAIKĪKĪ, O‘AHU) – Mother monk seal, Kaiwi, and her pup spent an hour and forty minutes in the water off Kaimana Beach this morning. This is the third day, since the pup’s birth, the pair have taken to the ocean.  

(WAIKOLOA, HAWAI‘I) – Two women were cited by officers from the DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources (DOCARE) tonight during a protest by feral cat activists. 

(KAHULUI, MAUI) – Following a nine-month closure, for slope stabilization work, one of the most popular parks in the DLNR Division of State Parks (DSP) system is scheduled to reopen next month. The May 1 reopening will also mark the fourth Hawai‘i state park to require advance reservations for out-of-state visitors. 

(HONOLULU) – Next week, the Hawai‘i Symphony Orchestra will host special performances for students weaving together music, art, science, and storytelling. “Symphony of the Hawai‘i Forests” is a collaboration including the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW), the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, Hālau ʻŌhiʻa, and others to strengthen our pilina (relationships) with each other, our forests, and the arts.
