(KONA, HAWAI'I ISLAND) – DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE) officers initiated cases against a large group of swimmers actively pursuing a pod of dolphins in Hōnaunau Bay Sunday morning, during a routine patrol in the South Kona District. 

(HONOLULU) – Four Hawai‘i Island communities and Kaua‘i County are receiving more than $400,000 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Forest Service, Community Wildfire Defense Grant Program. It helps communities, tribes, nonprofit organizations, state forestry agencies and Alaska Native corporations plan for and mitigate wildfire risks as the country faces an ongoing wildfire crisis. 

(HILO, HAWAI'I ISLAND) – A nēnē family was reunited and relocated last week after an illegal capture and removal of its gosling from Wailoa River State Recreation Area in Hilo. 

(HONOLULU) – Friday, the state Board of Land and Natural Resources (BLNR) unanimously approved the Final Environmental Assessment (EA) to employ landscape-scale mosquito suppression in critical forest bird habitat  to reduce mosquito populations in the dense, wet forests of east Maui. 

(HILO, HAWAI'I ISLAND) – 57-year-old Meiqin Chen of Hilo was cited this morning by the DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE) after removing a nēnē gosling from Wailoa River State Recreation Area in Hilo.

(HONOLULU) – Next month, the Hawai‘i Symphony Orchestra will host special performances for students weaving together music, art, science, and storytelling. “Symphony of the Hawai‘i Forests” is a collaboration including the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW), the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, Hālau ʻŌhiʻa, and others to strengthen our pilina (relationships) with each other, our forests, and the arts.

(WAIKOLOA, HAWAI‘I) – The DLNR Division of Aquatic Resources (DAR) took down shark warning signs on Monday at ʻAnaehoʻomalu Bay on Hawai‘i Island, following an apparent encounter over the weekend.

(HONOLULU) – On Friday, the largest recruit class in the history of the DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE) history was commissioned.

(HONOLULU) – To avoid damaging a culturally significant site, the DLNR Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR) has informed the owner of the vessel, Kuuipo, that DOBOR is taking control of the boat and is immediately hiring a contractor to move the vessel to a safe location. 

(KAUPŌ, MAUI) –Management efforts on the southeast slopes of Haleakalā aim to gradually restore the native forest ecosystem of Maui’s Kīpahulu Forest Reserve. The DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) is seeking community input on a draft plan to help guide priorities for the area over the next decade.
