- 06/05/15 – Hawaii Climate Change Adaptation Committee Begins WorkHONOLULU – The Hawaii State Legislature identified climate change as one of the most urgent and long-term threats to the State’s economy, sustainability, security and way of life over the next century. In 2014 it passed Act 83 in order to address the effects of climate change. Act 83 also established the Interagency Climate Adaptation Committee (ICAC), with representatives from more than a dozen state and county agencies. The ICAC is tasked with developing a statewide Sea Level Rise Vulnerability Assessment and Adaptation Report (SLR Report) to the legislature by the end of 2017. The committee held its first meeting this week on June 3.

- 06/03/15 – Notice Of Animal Control Activities and Temporary Closure of Mauna Kea Forest Reserve, Mauna Kea Ice Age Natural Area Reserve, And Ka‘ohe Game Management AreaHILO -- The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) will conduct animal control activities specifically for trapping mouflon/feral sheep hybrids; staff hunting, and/or aerial shooting from helicopters for feral goats, feral sheep, mouflon and mouflon/feral sheep hybrids within palila critical habitat in the Mauna Kea Forest Reserve (Unit A), Mauna Kea Ice Age Natural Area Reserve (Unit K), and the Ka‘ohe Game Management Area (Unit G) on the island of Hawai‘i. Aerial shooting is required for compliance with the federal court order mandating the removal of sheep and goats from critical habitat for palila, a bird endemic to Hawai‘i.
- 06/01/15 -Cause of Coral Mortality In Kaneohe Bay Different Than Originally ThoughtHONOLULU – A new type of microscopic lesion, termed colony-wide protein losing cytopathology (CPLC), was associated with of an unusual die-off of corals (Montipora capitata) in central Kaneohe Bay in early February. The cause of CPLC is not known.
- 05/29/15 – DLNR To Hold Public Hearing On Draft Habitat Conservation Plan For Na Pua Makani Wind Energy Project At KahukuHONOLULU -- A public hearing on a draft habitat conservation plan for the proposed construction and operation of a wind farm project that could generate up to 25 megawatts of power on Oahu will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2015, at the Kahuku Village Association Community Center, 56-576 Kamehameha Highway.The (DLNR) invites testimony on the Na Pua Makani Wind Energy project draft habitat conservation plan.

- 05/25/15 – High Tech Radar Trucks Begin Annual Seabird Monitoring, ‘A’o and Ua’u Tracked at NightLIHU 'E – Annual seabird radar monitoring work has now begun in conjunction with the start of the breeding season for both both ‘A‘o (Newell’s Shearwaters) and Ua’u (Hawaiian Petrels) on Kaua’i. This is a project of the Kauai Endangered Seabird Recovery Project (KESRP).
