(Wai`anae) –The Wai`anae Small Boat Harbor comfort station will undergo renovations over the next few months. The project is slated to begin on November 26, 2018 with completion in late February 2019 but could take an additional few months for completion. The project contractor is Maxum Construction of Hawaii, LLC at a cost of $384,215.

KAUNAKAKAI, MOLOKAI --  A project at Kaunakakai Small Boat Harbor is underway to remove an existing wooden loading dock and replace it with a new aluminum framed loading dock with plastic lumber fenders and fiber reinforced plastic decking.  Work is scheduled to be completed by November 15, 2018

(Honolulu) – The wreckage of a Robinson R44 helicopter was airlifted out of waist deep water in Kaneohe Bay just before noon today.  Two DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE) officers assisted a rigger from Pacific Helicopters in getting straps and ropes around the chopper, which had turned on one side during or after the accident.

(Kailua-Kona) – More than 300 boat owners at Hawai‘i island’s Honokōhau Small Boat Harbor are being advised by the DLNR Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR) to contact the new operator of the harbor’s dry marine storage facility. Pacific Marine Partners LLC (dba Honokōkau Marine Storage) assumes operations of the nine-acre boat storage lot on Nov. 1, 2018 following the termination of a revocable permit (RP) by the Board of Land and Natural Resources (BLNR) in August.

(Honolulu) – All Hawai‘i island and Maui Nui lands under the jurisdiction of the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) are closing at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2018.  The closures are in advance of Hurricane Olivia which is approaching Hawai‘i now.  DLNR Chair Suzanne Case explained, “This is standard operating procedure for our publicly accessible lands and is a prudent approach to keep everyone out of harm’s way during these hurricanes and tropical storm events. We know it may be an inconvenience for people, particularly those who have camping permits, but our top priority is keeping everyone…staff and visitors’ safe until the storm has passed.”

(Hilo) – The DLNR Division of State Parks, in consultation with other DLNR divisions and the Hawai‘i County Civil Defense Agency is reopening MacKenzie State Recreation Area (SRA) in Lower Puna on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018.  The park had been closed since shortly after the beginning of the East Rift Zone eruption in early May.

 (Honolulu) – The Hawai‘i Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) and its divisions are closing various properties in advance of Hurricane Lane.  The regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Land and Natural Resources (BLNR), set for Friday, August 24th has been postponed.

(Honolulu) – In an effort to restore open beach space by removing unauthorized vessels from state unencumbered lands at Lanikai Beach, state boating officials on June 15 posted notice to advise owners of 90 small boats to remove these items or they would be impounded.

(Hilo) – The flow from fissure #8 is slowly creeping to the State of Hawai‘i’s Pohoiki Boat Ramp adjacent to Hawai‘i County’s Issac Hale Park.  During an assessment of eruption impacts today, steam and volcanic gasses from the nearby ocean entry wafted over the tall trees in the park’s now empty parking lot.  Stephen Schmelz, Hawai’i Island Branch Manager for the DLNR Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR) estimates the lava, if it maintains its current course and speed, could overtake Pohoiki and Issac Hale Park within the next few days.
