(KAILUA-KONA) – It’s a rite of Spring in the coastal waters on Hawai‘i Island, and across the Hawaiian archipelago, and the time to let coral colonies rest during their short spawning windows. Parking at the Waialea Bay Marine Life Conservation District (MLCD) will be closed during the mornings of May 17, 18, and 19 to allow spawning and the production of new keiki offspring.

(HONOLULU) – An estimated 40% of the people who showed up at Diamond Head State Monument early this morning did not have reservations. Today, is the first of a new “adaptive management” plan to improve visitor experiences at one of O‘ahu’s most popular natural attractions.
(LĪHUʻE) – Beginning next Tuesday, May 3, the DLNR Division of State Parks (DSP) will issue a limited number of overnight permits for camping in Kalalau in the Nāpali Coast State Wilderness Park on Kauaʻi. Permits can be purchased on a space available basis, to walk-in applicants only, at the Kauaʻi State Parks Office in the State Office Building in Līhuʻe. Permits will be available on a first-come, first-served basis from 8 a.m.-11a.m., Tuesday through Thursday, each week through the summer.
(HONOLULU) – Listed as a National Natural Landmark, the iconic Lē‘ahi - Diamond Head State Monument (DHSM), is the third park unit in the Hawai‘i State Park system to require advanced reservations for out-of-state visitors, beginning on May 12, 2022. Hawai‘i residents continue to enjoy free access without reservations, but entry may depend on parking availability.
(Honolulu) – Governor David Ige today proclaimed April 17 – 23 as Volunteer Week Hawai’i to celebrate the work volunteers do across the state. “Having people work in the community is probably the best way to get them to be invested in our community,” Governor Ige said. “It really is an honor and a privilege to work side-by-side with so many organizations to take care of this place we call home.”
(HONOLULU) – Lesley Macpherson of the DLNR Division of State Parks has witnessed five monk seal births. On April 14, she documented her sixth, as she recorded veteran mother RN58 give birth to PO5, the fifth pup born on O‘ahu this year.
(HILO) – A third attempt to plant an illegal garden in a state park, was foiled Sunday by officers from the DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE). Four people were cited on a variety of charges, including unlawful introduction of plant life on public property and altering geological features by digging into manicured grass.
(LĪHUʻE) – After fielding countless complaints over the course of several years about illegal or unpermitted wedding photography happening on county and state lands, today commercial photographers got their permitting questions answered.
(Honolulu) – Beginning Tuesday February 1st for three consecutive days from 7:00am to 11:00am the entire Makapu’u Lighthouse trail and parking areas at the Kaiwi State Scenic Shoreline will be closed for maintenance. Barricades and temporary signs will be placed at the park entrance alerting park users not to enter.
(Kailua-Kona) –On Friday, December 31, 2021, the DLNR Division of State Parks will be closing Hāpuna Beach State Recreation Area, Kīholo State Park Reserve and Kekaha Kai State Park (Mahai’ula and Kua Bay sections) early at 5 p.m. Closing of the parks early is to discourage fireworks. All fireworks are prohibited in state parks to protect the natural resources of the area.
