(HONOLULU) – The State and four non-profit organizations have teamed up to create a new statewide number to report marine debris. Derelict fishing gear, like nets, is responsible for entangling marine life like turtles and humpback whales.
(Hāna) – Improvements to the Hāna Boat Ramp and wharf will result in construction and closures that may impact boaters beginning the last week of June. The boat ramp will be closed for approximately 8 days starting around July 12 (date is subject to change) while new precast panels will be installed at the top of the boat ramp.
(HONOLULU) – One of Hawaiʻi’s most popular trails will be reopening soon, just in time for National Trails Day. The DLNR Nā Ala Hele Trail and Access Program, part of the Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) will reopen the Mānoa Falls Trail on June 5, 2021. The popular trail was originally closed in July 2019 for the installation of a rockfall hazard mitigation fence next to the falls. With the trail closed for the fence installation, Nā Ala Hele also installed some long overdue trail safety improvements.

(Waikīkī) – A small mountain of marine sand has emerged on Kūhiō Beach, as the planned beach maintenance/sand replenishment project enters the final sand placement stage of the project in the heart of Hawai‘i’s major tourism district. The project started on January 26 and has been successful in retrieving approximately 20,000 cubic yards of offshore sand and stockpiling it on the beach in anticipation of final placement in the Royal Hawaiian to Moana Beach cell.
(Honolulu) – The Poamoho Trail has been closed due to a large landslide event. The trail will remain closed and access permits will remain suspended until a hazard mitigation team has assessed the damage and potential hazards on-trail.
