(Honolulu)–A New Year is coming, do your resolutions involve shaping the future of Hawai‘iʻs natural areas, cultural and historical sites, agricultural production, and other public resources? The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) seeks three volunteers to join the Legacy Land Conservation Commission, for a term of up to four years.

(Kailua-Kona) – The Department of Land and Natural Resources is reminding the public that West Hawai‘i State Parks will close early at 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 31, 2018, New Year’s Eve. Parks closing early include Hāpuna, Kīholo and Kekaha Kai (Mahai’ula and Kua Bay sections).

(Kīlauea, Kauaʻi, Hawaiʻi) -- In 2018, conservation partners again provided a new home, safe from invasive predators, for some of Hawaiʻi’s most imperiled seabirds. A total of 39 chicks, including 20 endangered uaʻu (Hawaiian Petrel) and 19 threatened ʻaʻo (Newell’s Shearwater), were moved from colonies in the mountains to the translocation site, called Nihokū, at Kīlauea Point National Wildlife Refuge. In this location, they are protected by a predator-proof fence surrounding the Nihokū restoration site.

(Honolulu) – The Waikiki-Diamond Head Shoreline Fisheries Management Area (SFMA), O‘ahu, will be closed to fishing for one year, from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2019.

HONOLULU -- Diamond Head (Lē‘ahi) is one of Hawaii’s most iconic geological features and a significant natural, cultural, historical, and recreational resource. The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR), Division of State Parks (Hawai‘i State Parks), is seeking to improve and diversify the visitor’s experience and recreational opportunities at Diamond Head State Monument.

(Honolulu) - Governor David Ige has approved a comprehensive administrative rule amendment package for the DLNR Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR). The amendments cover rules for state small boat harbors, state boating facilities, and state ocean waters.

(Lihu`e) – A year long project at the Port Allen Small Boat Harbor has completed with new slips opened today. The DLNR Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation project involved the removal of existing, badly deteriorated fixed concrete piers and the installation of new aluminum framed floating docks with plastic lumber decking, including all new electrical and water utilities.

(Honolulu) – Hawaii-based marine and animal protection organizations have joined forces with the Hawai‘i Dept. of Land and Natural Resources to make it easier for people to report illegal aquarium collecting activity across the state.

(Hilo) –The Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) announces the opening of the 2018 – 2019 Game Bird Hunting Season at the Kahua/Ponoholo Ranch Cooperative Game Management Area on Saturday, December 22, 2018.

(Honolulu) – The annual First Day Hike on the Makapu’u Light House Trail at the Kaiwi State Scenic Shoreline on O‘ahu is arguably the most unique of the nearly 1,200 hikes in America’s State Parks each New Year’s Day.  While far from the most difficult it is one of the best attended with an estimated 700 people making the short, two-mile-roundtrip hike to an overlook where participants can see the first sunrise of 2019.
