(Honolulu) - Governor David Ige has approved a comprehensive administrative rule amendment package for the DLNR Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR). The amendments cover rules for state small boat harbors, state boating facilities, and state ocean waters.

(Lihu`e) – A year long project at the Port Allen Small Boat Harbor has completed with new slips opened today. The DLNR Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation project involved the removal of existing, badly deteriorated fixed concrete piers and the installation of new aluminum framed floating docks with plastic lumber decking, including all new electrical and water utilities.

(Wai`anae) –The Wai`anae Small Boat Harbor comfort station will undergo renovations over the next few months. The project is slated to begin on November 26, 2018 with completion in late February 2019 but could take an additional few months for completion. The project contractor is Maxum Construction of Hawaii, LLC at a cost of $384,215.

KAUNAKAKAI, MOLOKAI --  A project at Kaunakakai Small Boat Harbor is underway to remove an existing wooden loading dock and replace it with a new aluminum framed loading dock with plastic lumber fenders and fiber reinforced plastic decking.  Work is scheduled to be completed by November 15, 2018

(Kailua-Kona) – More than 300 boat owners at Hawai‘i island’s Honokōhau Small Boat Harbor are being advised by the DLNR Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR) to contact the new operator of the harbor’s dry marine storage facility. Pacific Marine Partners LLC (dba Honokōkau Marine Storage) assumes operations of the nine-acre boat storage lot on Nov. 1, 2018 following the termination of a revocable permit (RP) by the Board of Land and Natural Resources (BLNR) in August.

The DLNR Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation will begin work starting October 19, to remove deteriorated asphalt and repave areas at the Wai‘anae Small Boat Harbor launch ramp and boat wash-down area. The total project scope of work includes repaving the existing asphalt roadways and parking areas, new striping, and at the boat launch ramp and wash-down areas, asphalt will be replaced with more durable concrete. Repaving of the roadway and parking areas has already been completed. Project contractor is Road Builders Corp. and cost is $1.5 million.

The Department of Land and Natural Resources will hold a public information meeting to explain to Maui boaters and community the project scope and planned fall schedule for maintenance dredging at Lahaina Harbor and Mala Boat Ramp. DLNR Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation staff will accept input/comments on current shoaling conditions, and answer questions. The meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 25, 2017 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the West Maui Senior Center, 788 Pauoa St. in Lahaina.

The Board of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR), today approved amendments to a wide range of state boating rules intended to improve management of State small boat harbors and ocean recreation-related activities in State waters.

Volunteers are invited to participate in a community workday and free fun activities to help restore the natural ecosystem of three anchialine pools in the Mahai‘ula section of Kekaha Kai State Park on Saturday, July 29. A beach cleanup is also part of the day’s events.
