KAHULUI – ‘Iao Valley State Monument on Maui will reopen at 7 a.m. on Saturday, January 23, following completion of various park improvements, including closures of the two large capacity cesspools in the park that were mandated via a consent agreement with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

(Kailua-Kona) Interested people are invited to review and discuss the preliminary alternatives for the management and development of Kealakekua Bay State Historical Park on Hawaii Island at a meeting on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Konawaena Elementary School. The findings of studies conducted for the planning will be shared, along with the alternatives that address public use, management of important resources, and proposed facilities. Kealakekua is one of the most culturally and historically significant places in Hawaii and the goal of this park planning is to balance the preservation of the cultural values and historical sites with the recreational use of the park, especially the very popular Kealakekua Bay.

KAILUA-KONA – The Department of Land and Natural Resources is reminding the public that West Hawai‘i state parks will close early at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2015, New Year’s Eve. Parks closing early include Hapuna, Kiholo and Kekaha Kai (Mahaiula and Kua Bay sections).

KAHULUI – ‘Iao Valley State Monument on Maui will be closed from January 11, 2016 through January 22, 2016 for various park improvements, including closures of the two large capacity cesspools in the park that were mandated via a consent agreement with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

(HONOLULU) – It’s a five-year long tradition now and when several hundred early-risers make the two-mile roundtrip hike to the Makapu’u Lookout in the Kaiwi State Scenic Shoreline on Jan. 1, 2016 they’ll be greeted with a variety of improvements to the park.

(HONOLULU) – The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) Division of State Parks has set up a new on-line format to issue free annual permits for anyone wanting to drive a vehicle into the Mokuleia section of Kaena Point State Park Reserve on Oahu’s north shore. The Aiea Loop Trail has been opened. Damages caused by large fallen trees and landslides have been repaired. The Keaiwa Heiau State Recreation Area and Aiea Loop Trail are open.

HONOLULU -- The Department of Land and Natural Resources has temporarily closed the ‘Aiea Loop Trail in Keaiwa Heiau State Recreational Area, for public safety, due to two landslides with fallen trees on the trail.

(HONOLULU) – More than 3,000 people have received a permit at no charge from the DLNR Division of State Parks this year for driving access to a coastal portion of Kaena Point State Park Reserve - Mokuleia section on Oahu’s north shore. The permit system was instituted as an attempt to curtail habitat damage caused by and accelerated by off-road vehicle use; to reduce soil erosion into the high quality near-shore waters frequented by fishers; and to stop other illegal and damaging activities. The permits, valid 24-hours a day, 365-days a year (unless the park is closed for weather or emergency reasons), allow drivers to transit designated roads, in a safe manner, behind a locked gate at the end of the paved road in the park.

KAILUA-KONA, HAWAI‘I – Planned improvements to Hapuna Beach State Recreation Area in Waimea between Kawaihae and Puako, are the subject of a community meeting taking place from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2015, at the mauka dining hall in the park.
