(HILO) - Eight people were arrested early this morning at a protest camp across the road from the Mauna Kea Visitors Center on Hawaii island. Seven women and one man were arrested for being present in the restricted area, outlined in the emergency rule passed by the Board of Land and Natural Resources and signed by Governor Ige. All of those arrested were transported by the Hawaii County Police Department to Hilo for booking.

HONOLULU – Due in large part to the weather delays in the construction, the Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR), Division of State Parks is modifying the closure dates for Makapu‘u Lighthouse Trail in Kaiwi State Scenic Shoreline. The trail will now be open from Friday, August 28 through Monday, September 14. To allow for the removal of the existing asphalt road and repaving of the one-mile long road, the trail will be closed for seven (7) days from Tuesday September 15 through Wednesday, September 23. The trail will be open on the weekend of September 19-20.

LIHU‘E, KAUA‘I -- The Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of State Parks will hold a public meeting next week on the Master Plan and EIS for Hâ‘ena State Park and will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Hanalei Elementary School Cafeteria. (LIHUE, KAUAI) – The Kalalau Trail in the Na Pali Coast State Wilderness Park is likely the most heavily used hiking trail in Hawaii. An estimated 500,000 visitors and residents use the spectacular trail each year. Sandwiched between the ocean and the towering cliffs of the Na Pali Coast, the trail is widely featured in guide books, on travel websites and in blogs.

HONOLULU -- The Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of State Parks will close portions of Wahiawa Freshwater State Recreation Area on weekdays for hazardous tree removal over the next two weeks, starting on Monday, August 3, 2015 and finishing by Friday, August 14, or sooner if possible.

(HILO) - Early Friday morning, July 31, 2015, officers from the DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement arrested seven men, camping in the restricted area on Maunakea on Hawaii Island. The Hawaii County Police Department provided transportation support and booking and rangers from the Office of Mauna Kea Management provided logistical support. An additional six men were issued citations and voluntarily left the mountain.

HA‘ENA, KAUA‘I -- After several years of research, community meetings, and previous attempts to develop a master plan for the park, the Division of State Parks of the Department of Land and Natural Resources has completed a master plan and draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for Ha‘ena State Park.

Due to localized heavy rainfall and the potential for flash flooding the DLNR Division of State Parks has closed the Kalalau Trail today to all hikers at 11:30 a.m. It will remain closed for the rest of the day. Anyone already on the trail is advised to not cross flooded streams and remain on high ground until flooding has subsided.

HONOLULU –The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR), Division of State Parks will postpone planned closures of the Makapu‘u Lighthouse Trail in Kaiwi State Scenic Shoreline for trail improvements, until late August and early September. There will be no closures in late July as originally planned on the six-month project, but additional work and a new rockfall mitigation project will delay the completion to September.

Smoking is now banned in all Hawaiʻi State Parks, as a new law – Act 123, SLH 2015 – went into effect as of July 1, 2015. The ban includes smoking, including electronic cigarettes, and all tobacco products. Please assist us by refraining from use of these products in our parks.
