(Hilo) – During a regularly scheduled quarterly aerial assessment of forests on Hawai‘i island in late July, spotters detected more trees “symptomatic” for the presence of C. lukuohia, the fungus more commonly known as Rapid ʻŌhiʻa Death. These trees are in the Kalōpā State Recreation Area on the Hamakua Coast and after the helicopter surveys utilizing digital mobile sketch mapping (DMSM), ground crews from the Big Island Invasive Species Committee (BIISC) followed up by taking ground samples.

(Manoa) – Over the course of eight hours today, officers from the DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE) contacted and educated more than 100 people concerning the current Manoa Falls Trail closure.

DLNR encourages people to remain vigilant for hazards associated with wind and heavy rainfall. Please report any downed trees, or trail washouts, etc. on the Division of Forestry and Wildlife Na Ala Hele Trails website at https://hawaiitrails.hawaii.gov/trails/#/

(Honolulu) – All Hawai‘i island and Maui Nui lands under the jurisdiction of the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) are closing at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2018.  The closures are in advance of Hurricane Olivia which is approaching Hawai‘i now.  DLNR Chair Suzanne Case explained, “This is standard operating procedure for our publicly accessible lands and is a prudent approach to keep everyone out of harm’s way during these hurricanes and tropical storm events. We know it may be an inconvenience for people, particularly those who have camping permits, but our top priority is keeping everyone…staff and visitors’ safe until the storm has passed.”

HONOLULU --   The Ka ‘Iwa Ridge or “Lanikai Pillbox” trail and pillboxes will be closed all day, on Sunday, September 9 for site clean-up and debris removal. Leftover debris from renovation work recently completed to the World-War II era observation platforms, along with blockades and signage put in place to aid renovation work, will be transported via helicopter lift from the site.

KAHULUI - The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR), Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) and State Parks Division will close the Kula Forest Reserve, Waipoli access road, Kahikinui Forest Reserve –Papa‘anui Tract, and Polipoli Spring State Recreation Area from Tuesday, September 4, 2018, through Friday, November 2, 2018, to allow for scheduled road repairs, road safety improvements, and fuel mitigation work to be completed.

(Honolulu) – At noon today most lands under the jurisdiction of the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) reopened to public use following the threat of Hurricane/Tropical Storm Lane.

(Honolulu) – Many state parks in Hawai‘i will reopen at various times on Saturday after staff have a chance to access any damage left in the wake of hurricane, now Tropical Storm Lane. 

 (Honolulu) – The Hawai‘i Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) and its divisions are closing various properties in advance of Hurricane Lane.  The regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Land and Natural Resources (BLNR), set for Friday, August 24th has been postponed.

(HONOLULU) - The Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW), will close the Manoa Falls Trail next week to conduct a rockfall mitigation survey on August 20, 21, and 22. The survey, conducted by DLNR and AECOM, will assess and document potential hazards within the falls viewing area.
