(HONOLULU) - A project to replace the aging and deteriorating water main at the Ala Wai Small Boat Harbor begins with utility probing this week. Pacific Isles Equipment Rental (PIER) Inc., will be working on the main until July 9 and will start the process by probing for all existing underground utilities that may be affected by the project.
(KAILUA-KONA) — Several West Hawai'i state parks will experience early closures on Independence Day. The DLNR Division of State Parks will close the following parks at 5:00 pm on Sunday, July 4:
(LĪHU‘E) — The annual plum harvest begins Saturday, July 3 at Kōke‘e State Park on Kaua‘i. Harvesting permits are free and available at the park’s headquarters. These permits must be completed and returned to the headquarters’ drop-box after harvesting. Plum picking is permitted daily between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. in designated areas.
(HONOLULU) – Twenty years in the making, the Hāʻena communities’ efforts to fully participate in the protection and management of Hāʻena State Park took another evolutionary step today. The Board of Land and Natural Resources (BLNR) approved a one-year revocable permit (RP) for the non-profit Hui Maka’āinana o Makana to oversee and manage a Park reservation system, including collecting both parking and entry fees as well as an integrated shuttle system that will reduce the number of cars that enter the Park each day. The hui will also manage the cultural landscape of the park.
(HONOLULU) – Today, the Board of Land and Natural Resources by a three-to-three tie reached an impasse in a decision to accept or reject the Revised Final Environmental Impact Statement (RFEIS) submitted by seven aquarium fish collectors for the West Hawai‘i Regional Fishery Management Area (WHRFMA). The law provides a 30-day time-period in which the board must reach a decision.
(Kaua‘i) – Across the day, an occasional whoop and cheer went up along the banks of the Pu‘u Lua Reservoir at Kōkeʻe, when another fisher caught a rainbow trout. The annual trout fishing opening weekend was a bit different for a second year in a row, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
(Kailua-Kona) - “It is very sad to see this damage,” DLNR Division of State Parks (DSP) Archeologist, Tracy Tam Sing said after seeing a historic door and window at Hulihe‘e Palace vandalized last month. On June 1, 27-year-old Charleigh Flournoy of Kailua-Kona, allegedly broke into the historic palace by shattering a lanai window located on the lower makai side.
(KEKAHA, KAUA‘I) The Kīkīaola Small Boat Harbor ramp will be closed from Monday, June 21, to Sunday, August 15, for the installation of new boat ramp panels on the above-water portion and concrete pavement at the top of the ramp.
(HONOLULU) – A new hunting season opens from July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022. Effective June 15th, the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) will begin issuing hunting licenses and stamps for this new season.
