(HILO) – As lava continues to flow into the Northeast Rift zone from Mauna Loa’s summit caldera, the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) is closing additional recreation areas on the mountain.
(HILO) – Periodically, this afternoon when clouds hugging the summit of the world’s largest volcano lifted, you could spot a field of lava on the northwestern flank of Mauna Loa.
(HILO) - Many of the hikers contacted today, by officers from the Hawaii Island Branch of the DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE), claimed to be unaware that traveling beyond closed signs at a collection of waterfalls known as Narnia is illegal without a permit or hunting license.

(HONOLULU) - On Tuesday, the State Commission on Water Resource Management (Water Commission or CWRM) amended interim instream flow standards (IIFS) for twelve streams and tributaries in the Huelo region of East Maui, and reserved water for the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (DHHL).
(Nāpali Coast State Wilderness Park) – On Tuesday, feral goats outnumbered campers at Kalalau Beach in this iconic, world-famous wilderness park. As winter nears, the number of permitted campers’ declines, as ocean swells make it both illegal and dangerous to land kayaks at the beach or to swim in from a boat.
(HONOLULU) – A new animated video highlights the success story of how biocontrol, a process where a carefully selected living organism is used to control an invasive species, helped to save the native Wiliwili tree. The video, produced by the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) in collaboration with the Coordinating Group on Alien Pest Species, also shows how biocontrol can continue to be an important tool in managing invasive species in Hawaiʻi.
(HONOLULU) – Following more than a year of outreach, and two public hearings, the Board of Land and Natural Resources (BLNR) today approved amended rules for commercial surfing instruction at Kahalu‘u Bay on Hawai‘i Island’s Kona coast.
(HONOLULU) – In May 2021, a barge operated by Healy Tibbitts Builders, Inc. was anchored near the entrance to Honolulu Harbor for dredging operations. In the process, the barge’s anchors and cables broke or damaged over 15,000 corals and 140-square yards of live rock.
