Angiostrongyliasis, also known as rat lungworm (RLW) disease, has been in the news lately. There has been a recent “spike” in both confirmed and probable cases on the island of Hawaii and on Maui so far in 2017. While not officially declared an “epidemic” by the Hawaii Department of Health (HDOH), the relative severity of the disease has alarmed many people throughout the State of Hawaii.
