HONOLULU – The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) announces that application forms for the 2014 Lanai mouflon sheep hunting season, together with instruction sheets, are available at all Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) offices statewide.. It is imperative that hunter applicants obtain and pay particular attention to the hunt instruction sheet and addendum for any changes in the application process.

HONOLULU – After an extensive public input process, the Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) will release a draft updated master plan for its management of the Kawainui-Hamakua Complex on May 16. At that time, DLNR will initiate a 30-day comment period to seek public comments on the draft plan.

HILO – Hilo’s newest artistic treasure, a mural showcasing the palila (a rare native Hawaiian forest bird), will be showcased in a mini-parade featuring the larger-than-life, gigantic palila this First Friday, April 4. Local artist, Kathleen Kam, teamed up with the Mauna Kea Forest Restoration Project, a project of DLNR and the Pacific Cooperative Studies Unit, to create the 9 by 12-foot mural.

HONOLULU –Another milestone was reached today, as teams from the Anuenue Fisheries Research Center (AFRC), a facility of the state’s Division of Aquatic Resources (DAR), planted the 200,000th juvenile sea urchin in Oahu’s Kaneohe Bay. Over the past three years, AFRC has successfully spawned and raised collector urchins in captivity with the express purpose of releasing them in the bay as part of an ecosystem-based management plan and for environmental mitigation work.
