(HONOLULU) – The 2022-2023 Game Bird Hunting Season in Hawai‘i opens Saturday, November 5 and runs through Sunday, January 29, 2023.  Hunting days, equipment, and bag limits vary by unit. Detailed descriptions of hunting opportunities statewide are available on the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) website.

(HONOLULU) – Certification permits, issued by the DLNR Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR), have long been required for surf and sailboard instructors, catamaran and canoe captains and second captains, and commercial motorboat operators, operating in Waikīkī.

(HONOLULU) – For nearly a decade, the DLNR Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR) has grappled with amendments to Hawai‘i Administrative Rules (HAR) regarding commercial manta ray viewing operations at two locations in the West Hawai‘i Ocean Recreation Management Area (ORMA). 

(Kapa‘au, Hawai‘i Island) – On any given day, the Hawai‘i Wildlife Center (HWC) has 20-30 patients. Many of the injured birds and bats that arrive here were hurt by things people created, like golf balls, power lines, cars, guns, and poisons. Add cats, dogs, mongoose, and rats to the long list of things that threaten both forest birds and seabirds. 

(HONOLULU) – Today, Governor David Ige declared “Imagine a Day Without Water.” It’s part of a national effort to raise awareness about the importance of water in our daily lives and to commit to ensuring a sustainable water future.

(HONOLULU) – Fishers, divers, surfers, cultural practitioners, kūpuna …everyone interested in marine resources, is invited to attend the Maui kick-off of the Holomua Marine 30X30 community planning process.

(LIHU'E) – ‘A‘o (Newell’s Shearwater) are the beneficiaries of a tradition on Kaua‘i. On Monday, students from Island School released two fledgling ‘A‘o, during the annual Ho‘opomaika‘i ‘ia na Manu ‘A‘o , meaning a cultural release of the native Newell’s Shearwater, at Lydgate Park. The annual affair is organized by the Kaua‘i Endangered Seabird Recovery Project (KESRP) and the Save Our Shearwaters (SOS) Program, both of which are supported by DLNR.

(HONOLULU) – This morning, a team of workers from the DLNR Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR) removed a pair of faded signs from a post at the Maunalua Bay boat ramp. They then began putting up a pair of new signs – reminders of the important role of mano (sharks) in native Hawaiian culture, ocean health, and resiliency. 

(Sand Island State Recreation Area, Honolulu) – The shoreline on the western side of O‘ahu’s only urban state park, is intended to be a place for residents and visitors to fish and swim and participate in recreational pursuits.

(LANA‘I CITY) While patrolling the shoreline on the north side of Lana'i, a DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources (DOCARE) Officer observed 34-year-old Keao Soriano bending over a bucket near the water’s edge. Soriano looked in the officer’s direction and then attempted to hide the bucket before contacting the officer.
