(HONOLULU) – The DLNR Division of Conservation and Resource Enforcement (DOCARE) announced today it will be enforcing a 50-yard cordon around Hawaiian monk seal Rocky and her pup at Kaimana Beach beginning tomorrow morning. This is a government operation to protect public safety and the safety of the monk seals.

(MILOLI‘I, KONA, HAWAI‘I ISLAND) – With the stroke of a pen, while dozens of community members watched, Governor David Ige on Tuesday signed administrative rules to make the coastline bordering this remote village the second Community-Based Subsistence Fishing Area (CBFSA) in the state.
(HONOLULU) - Applications for the 2023 Lānaʻi Axis Deer hunting season will be available for purchase next month. The DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) will begin accepting applications Monday, August 15, 2022.
(HONOLULU) – Over two years after closing, due to COVID concerns and overuse and abuse issues, Polihale State Park will reopen to overnight camping beginning August 14, 2022. Reservations will be available online starting August 1 and may be made up to 90 days in advance.
(HONOLULU) – When the Hawaiian monk seal Rocky, and her pup encountered a 60-year-old California elementary school teacher, a State investigation shows she did nothing to provoke the incident and was not even aware the seals were in the water.
(LĪHUʻE) – Calling all artists! Next month, DLNR is partnering with Island Conservation to host an art show focused on the natural beauty, native species, and powerful mana of Lehua Island. Entries will be displayed at the Kauaʻi Society of Artists (KSA) art gallery at Kukui Grove August 12-19. All entries must be submitted by Saturday, August 6. Artists of all ages and experience levels are encouraged to create and submit Lehua-inspired art.
(HONOLULU) - Hawaiian Electric Co. (HECO) has stepped up to help reduce the spread of the Rapid ‘Ōhi‘a Death (ROD) disease on Oʻahu through the design, fabrication, and installation of a new style of boot brush station for trailheads. Sean Moura, Hawaiian Electric wildlife biologist, took an existing boot brush design and modified it to be more inviting and user-friendly.
(HONOLULU) - Seven years ago the DLNR Office of Conservation and Coastal Lands (OCCL) launched a streamlined application for loko i‘a (fishpond) repair and restoration as part of the Hoʻāla Loko Iʻa program. Since its beginning, 20 new fishpond restoration permits have been issued.
(HONOLULU) - The State Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Commission announced today that Leah Laramee has joined the Commission as ITS new Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Coordinator. Laramee has been acting as the interim coordinator for the past five months and officially took the role yesterday.
