DOCARE

(HONOLULU) – Had it been something other than a sharp fishing knife perhaps the video would have been endearing?  A Hawaiian monk seal pup named Manu‘iwa recently weaned from its mother on a Hawai‘i Island beach.  Staff from Ke Kai Ola, a hospital operated by The Marine Mammal Center at Kailua-Kona and officers from the DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE) have been monitoring the pup’s health and growth. 

(KAHULUI, MAUI) – The ‘Ahihi-Kina’u Natural Area Reserve (NAR) on Maui’s south shore will remain closed at least until Monday, April 23, 2018 due to the continued presence of sharks in the popular snorkeling destination.  The NAR has been closed for two weeks, after numerous tiger sharks were spotted, apparently coming close to shore to follow pupping reef sharks.

(HONOLULU) – Two men received citations from DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE) officers on March 30th at Kahana Bay on O‘ahu’s windward coast.

(Lihue) - Two dozen officers from the DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE), the Kaua‘i Police Dept., and State Sheriffs removed a total of five people from two parcels of DLNR land this morning. . In the week’s leading up to today’s operation the squatters were offered services to help them find permanent housing, but they declined.

(HONOLULU) -The Department of Land and Natural Resources’ Hunter Education Program in partnership with the Honolulu Trap Club will be holding a shotgun shooting basics workshop on Saturday, April 7, 2018 from 11:00am to 3:00pm. The workshop will take place at the Koko Head Shooting Complex, Trap Range, located at: 8102 Kalanianaole Hwy, Honolulu, HI 96825.

(HONOLULU) – Early in the morning on Jan. 20, 2018 a DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources (DOCARE) officer spotted a man about 100 yards offshore of Wailupe Beach Park using a headlamp.  The officer reports the light was focused on a kayak and the man was walking in chest deep water next to it. Peering through binoculars the officer saw the man “pulling long continuous sections of lay net from the water and loading it onto the red kayak.”

(HONOLULU) – One day after Christopher P. Barclay was cited by officers from the DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE), he was arrested at Diamond Head State Monument on a 2015 bench warrant for failure to appear. The charge in that case was for Soliciting and Sales on DLNR land.

(HONOLULU) - The Board of Land and Natural Resources (BLNR) voted today to approve an area of land on Hawai‘i island as a public shooting range for the purpose of supporting the state’s Hunter Safety program.

(HONOLULU) – Three officers from the DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE) and three lifeguards from the City and County of Honolulu Ocean Safety & Lifeguard Services recovered an enormous and extremely heavy ball of derelict fishing nets this afternoon.  It’s not known whether the nets are part of the two-mile-long marine debris field that was first reported by a fisherman last weekend between Moloka‘i and Oah‘u? DOCARE officers familiar with the area where the net was spotted, feel that it is. They say it’s unusual to finding nets of this magnitude off Waikiki.

(HONOLULU) – Based on witness reports and a social media posting, the DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement is investigating the possible illegal removal of rocks (pohaku) from Ka‘ena Point State Park yesterday afternoon.
