Take Kaneohe Bay Drive to Castle High School


At traffic light,
turn right onto Pu‘ohala street
if you’re coming from Kailua or left if you’re coming from Honolulu.

Make your first right onto Kulauli street.
• Follow road past Pu`ohala Elementary School until you reach the fork in the road -go left and follow dirt road to the end.

 

Waikalua Loko I’a Work Day

 Come help to restore and maintain the Waikalua Fishpond by removing invasive mangrove. You will even be rewarded with a educational tour and a light lunch!

What to bring: Clothing that can get muddy/dirty, old shoes or tabis, sunscreen, reusable water bottle, gloves, hat, etc. Tools will be provided.

Come participate in a day of sharing, presentations, and targeted discussions. The forum is designed as a semi-formal, peer-to-peer interaction among practitioners to establish the current state of practice in natural area weed management on the Big Island.

Albizia Control Training & Workday: learning how to control young albizia BEFORE these fast-growing trees become a menace? Want to know more about how to contact absentee landowners or report trees in the ROW?  Come to an albizia workshop and learn how to take ACTION on albizia.

What to bring: we will be doing hands-on with our albizia field crew, handling sharp tools and herbicide. If you plan to participate in the hands-on trainings or workdays, please wear/bring: sturdy, closed toe shoes, long pants, long sleeved shirt, water bottle (we provide ice-cold water for refills), Optional for comfort: hat, sunscreen, mosquito repellant.

Mālama Maunalua and Pono Pacific

Invasive Algae Workday: Come join Mālama Maunalua and Pono Pacific in removing invasive alien algae at Maunalua Bay. The focus of our work is to clear the area of harmful algae to restore a healthy, native marine habitat. Our restaurant partner, BYO Bowls, will also be joining the event for the day. Workday volunteers will not only be giving back to our environment, but will have the opportunity to learn how to reduce their “food-print” through sustainable food choices.

What to bring: Tabis and gloves will be provided. Please bring water, sun protection, and clothes that can get wet/dirty.

Meet at: Kaʻena Gate (North Shore Side, do not drive to Yokohama bay to access Kaʻena Pt. for this service trip.

Oahu NEPM (Native Ecosystem Protection & Management)

Volunteer Service Trip: Help install symbolic trail fencing at Kaʻena Pt. NAR to protect nesting seabirds and native coastal plants.

What to bring: Covered shoes (boots preferable), 2 liters of Water, Hat, sunscreen, gloves if possible, long sleeved clothing for sun protection, sunglasses or eye protection

Oʻahu Army Natural Resources Program

 Volunteer Service Trip: We will control a variety of invasive weeds at Kaʻala, including False pamakani (Ageratina adenophora), Koster’s curse (Clidemia hirta), Juncus effusus, and Crocosmia x crocosmiiflora.

What to bring: Hiking boots, backpack, water, lunch, long pants/sleeves, rain gear. All tools and gloves will be provided.

Open to the public? Yes, but must complete a volunteer application and RSVP at https://oanrp.ivolunteer.com/jan_feb_2017.  If spots have filled, be sure to sign up for the waitlist. by Tuesday, February 14.

Volunteer workday: Malama Huleia and KISC have partnered to provide a workday that will include pulling weeds from a wetland restoration site, and hauling cut mangrove branches.

Little Fire Ant Management Workshop: Little Fire Ant (LFA) voucher program to reduce the initial costs for selected ant bait toxicants and hand spreaders. A limited supply of vouchers will be available to adults age 18 and over who have attended and completed a Little Fire Ant Workshop.

Koke’e Resource Conservation Program & the Kauai Invasive Species Committee

Volunteer Workday: Assist the KRCP and KISC staff in removing invasive weeds from Kokeʻeʻs native forest. We will primarily be removing Himalayan Ginger and also searching for a new incipient weed, Japanese mat rush, along the Pihea Trail.

What to Bring: equired work attire: Long pants, long sleeve shirt, socks and close toe shoes preferably with ankle support. Everyone will need to carry their own sack lunch and drinking water. We recommend packing rain gear. 

Open to the public? Yes. Participants 17 and younger will need to be accompanied by an adult. RSVP preferred but not required.

Kawainui Wildlife Sanctuary 1st Saturday’s Volunteer Day:  Come Join DOFAW’s Wildlife team to remove invasive species to help restore waterbird habitat! This month’s service project will be held at Hamakua marsh.

What to bring: Cleaned, sturdy shoes for working outdoors, reusable water bottle, wear long sleeve shirt, pants, insect repellant, sunscreen, hat, glasses
