Summary: Miconia is an ecosystem changing weed with widespread impacts for Hawaii’s forests. On Maui, the battle continues for watersheds in east Maui, where a large infestation of miconia has been present for decades. Dr. James Leary (UH) discusses his work with miconia control, in particular through the use of herbicide ballistic technology, and the economic value of protecting these natural areas.
