(HONOLUA BAY, MAUI) – Work to remove fuel, other pollutants, and batteries from the grounded 94-foot-long luxury yacht Nakoa, will continue Saturday at Honolua Bay in northwest Maui.

(HONOLULU, HI) –Governor Josh Green M.D. today issued a proclamation declaring 2023, the Year of the Kāhuli. These colorful native tree snails are not your garden variety type, but species that used to inhabit virtually every ecosystem across the state and have played a significant role in the natural and cultural life of Hawai‘i.

(HONOLUA BAY, MAUI) – It’s likely to be another few days before the 94-foot-long luxury yacht Nakoa is freed from the rocks and reef at Honolua Bay in northwest Maui.

(HONOLULU) – The owners of the luxury yacht Nakoa have hired a private contractor to salvage the vessel which grounded nearshore at Honolua Bay early on Sunday.

(KAʻŪ FOREST RESERVE, HAWAI‘I ISLAND) – ‘Io, the Hawaiian hawk, is the subject of simultaneous research projects underway on Hawai‘i Island. It’s one of two raptors native to Hawai‘i. The other is Pueo, the Hawaiian short-eared owl. ‘Io research is being conducted by the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) and San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance (SDZWA) and is giving conservationists new insights into the majestic birds’ range and behaviors.

(HILO) – The 2023 Spring Bearded Turkey Hunting Season will begin on Tuesday, March 1, 2023 and run for 46 consecutive days through Friday, April 15.

(HONOLULU, HI) – The 20-member Hawai‘i Climate Commission voted today to support Governor Josh Green’s proposal to create a $100 million climate fund to continue guiding the state’s adaptation and mitigation efforts to combat climate change.

(KĀNEʻOHE BAY, OʻAHU) – A major milestone was reached this week as teams from the Ānuenue Fisheries Research Center (AFRC), a facility of the DLNR’s Division of Aquatic Resources (DAR), planted the one millionth juvenile native sea urchin in Kāneʻohe Bay on Oʻahu. Since January 2011, AFRC has successfully spawned and raised collector urchins in captivity with the purpose of releasing them in the bay as part of an ecosystem-based management plan for environmental mitigation work in the bay and off Waikīkī.
