(HILO) – Two weeks after they were closed due to volcanic activity on Mauna Loa, the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) is re-opening the following areas:
(HONOLULU) - Today, the State Board of Land and Natural Resources (BLNR) approved the adoption of Hawai‘i Administrative Rule (HAR) chapter 13-60.41 to prohibit the take of pāku‘iku‘i (Achilles Tang) within the West Hawai‘i Regional Fishery Management Area (WHRFMA) on Hawai‘i Island under adaptive management rulemaking authority. This is the first time that the DLNR Division of Aquatic Resources (DAR) has adopted rules under the new adaptive management authority, which allows the Department to approve temporary management measures in response to rapidly changing resource conditions.
(HONOLULU) – The State Board of Land and Natural Resources (BLNR) has fined the owner of a vessel for damage to stony coral and or live/rock on Hawai‘i Island in 2021.
(Kihei, Maui) – The search for a missing 60-year-old Washington State woman was called off at noon today, after teams from the Maui Fire Dept., Maui Ocean Safety, and the DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE) failed to find her.
(HONOLULU) – As DLNR Chair Suzanne Case prepared to lead her last meeting as Chair of the State Board of Land and Natural Resources (BLNR), she was surprised when much of her leadership team and Senator Lorraine Inouye walked into the room.
(HONOLULU) -- Just before noon today a person placed a call to 911 reporting a possible shark encounter about 50-yards from shore at Keawakapu Point in South Maui.
(HILO) – Less than 24-hours after the current eruption of Mauna Loa began, Steve Bergfeld, the Hawai‘i Island Branch Chief with the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) worried most about the Pu‘u Maka‘ala Natural Area Reserve (NAR) on the southeast side of the mountain. At that time lava flows were headed into the northeast rift zone of Mauna Loa.
(HILO) – Three men from Kazakhstan were cited on Wednesday after being observed by three different law enforcement agencies, in the closed area of the Mauna Loa Forest Reserve on Hawai‘i Island. The area was closed shortly after the current eruption of Mauna Loa to protect people from risk of injury or worse.
(HONOLULU) - Maui residents have the opportunity to have their voices heard to help ensure healthy reefs and abundant resources for years to come. The DLNR Division of Aquatic Resources (DAR) is extending the deadline for the nomination process for its Maui Navigation team.
