(Hilo) – The DLNR Division of State Parks, Wailoa River State Recreation Area will be closed temporarily from Thursday July 22nd through Saturday July 24th as dry wells are being installed to prevent flooding in the parking lot. In addition, a water bottle filing station will be installed and portions of the main entry roadway that have deteriorated over time will be repaved.

(HILO) – Today, was a typical Saturday for DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE) reserve officer John Kahiapo. At a back-to-school keiki fishing tournament at Laupāhoehoe Point Beach Park on Hawai‘i Island he was in his element talking with young fishers about pono practices, answering their questions about life in the ocean, and spreading the messages of conservation and protection of natural resources.

(Kekaha, Kaua’i) – The DLNR Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR) announce that repairs to the Kīkīaola Small Boat Harbor Launch Ramp have been completed ahead of schedule, and the ramp will reopen on Monday, July 19, 2021.

(HONOLULU) – State lawmakers and DLNR leaders believe the 2021 legislative session was the most productive and effective for natural and cultural resources protection and support of any in recent decades. 

(HILO) –  Next week, Pano Pau and Loli‘ana will begin greeting visitors to Hawai‘i island and the Pana‘ewa Rainforest Zoo and Gardens with their distinctive calls and their curious looks. The young male birds will be ambassadors for the endangered species.

(HONOLULU) – A blessing was held today to mark the beginning of a long-term management plan to protect the Maunawili Falls Trail and the surrounding neighborhoods. The popular trail will be temporarily closed beginning next week on July 15. The closure is expected to be for two years and includes the trailhead near the Maunawili Estates subdivision.  

(Kailua-Kona) – Puʻuhonua o Hōnaunau, on the west side of Hawaiʻi Island, is an important cultural and historical location that once served as a hub of political and religious activity within the Kona district. The site, now a National Historic Park including 420 acres spread across three ahupuaʻa, contains an area that is being overrun by invasive goats. In order to protect those resources, the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) announce a goat salvage project in cooperation with the Puʻuhonua o Hōnaunau National Historical Park.

(Hilo) – The DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) will be conducting maintenance work on Muliwai trail and Waimanu campground between July 12-16. The Muliwai trail will be closed to all users during this period. The Waimanu Campgrounds remain closed due to COVID concerns since March 17, 2020.

(OLOWALU, MAUI) – From a distance, it appears a flock of birds left their collective droppings all over a cliff face that holds some of the finest examples of Hawaiian petroglyphs. Also known as Pu'u Kilea, there are about 100 petroglyphs spread across the face of the basalt cliff in the Olowalu Valley. 

 (Kahului, Maui) – A statewide online public hearing will be held on proposed amendments of Hawai’i Administrative Rules (HAR) relating to the Kahului Harbor Fisheries Management Area (FMA) and rules regulating the take and possession of ‘oama on the island of Maui.
