Closure: Trail
(HONOLULU) – One of Hawaiʻi’s most popular trails will be reopening soon, just in time for National Trails Day. The DLNR Nā Ala Hele Trail and Access Program, part of the Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) will reopen the Mānoa Falls Trail on June 5, 2021. The popular trail was originally closed in July 2019 for the installation of a rockfall hazard mitigation fence next to the falls. With the trail closed for the fence installation, Nā Ala Hele also installed some long overdue trail safety improvements.
(Honolulu) – The Poamoho Trail has been closed due to a large landslide event. The trail will remain closed and access permits will remain suspended until a hazard mitigation team has assessed the damage and potential hazards on-trail.
(Honolulu) – With today’s announcement that community spread of COVID-19 is likely happening in Hawai‘i, the DLNR Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR) has suspended all commercial operator permits until further notice.
(Honolulu) – Out of an abundance of caution and to facilitate social distancing recommendations, DLNR and its divisions are announcing the following closures to help reduce the potential spread of COVID-19. DLNR Chair Suzanne Case said, “We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding during this time of major inconvenience. We intend to reopen parks and facilities as soon as the novel coronavirus is no longer a threat. These steps are being taken to protect all visitors and constituents, as well as our staff, while maintaining a high level of service.”
(Honolulu) – Despite O‘ahu having the state’s highest population, the island has largely been spared from a wide-spread outbreak of the fungal disease known as Rapid ʻŌhiʻaDeath. With the detection last week of a single tree with the less virulent strain of the fungus, C. huliohia, only five ōhiʻa trees on O‘ahu have been identified as having the disease.
(Manoa) – Over the course of eight hours today, officers from the DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE) contacted and educated more than 100 people concerning the current Manoa Falls Trail closure.
(Honolulu) – All Hawai‘i island and Maui Nui lands under the jurisdiction of the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) are closing at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2018. The closures are in advance of Hurricane Olivia which is approaching Hawai‘i now. DLNR Chair Suzanne Case explained, “This is standard operating procedure for our publicly accessible lands and is a prudent approach to keep everyone out of harm’s way during these hurricanes and tropical storm events. We know it may be an inconvenience for people, particularly those who have camping permits, but our top priority is keeping everyone…staff and visitors’ safe until the storm has passed.”
HONOLULU -- The Ka ‘Iwa Ridge or “Lanikai Pillbox” trail and pillboxes will be closed all day, on Sunday, September 9 for site clean-up and debris removal. Leftover debris from renovation work recently completed to the World-War II era observation platforms, along with blockades and signage put in place to aid renovation work, will be transported via helicopter lift from the site.
KAHULUI - The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR), Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) and State Parks Division will close the Kula Forest Reserve, Waipoli access road, Kahikinui Forest Reserve –Papa‘anui Tract, and Polipoli Spring State Recreation Area from Tuesday, September 4, 2018, through Friday, November 2, 2018, to allow for scheduled road repairs, road safety improvements, and fuel mitigation work to be completed.
