May is Hawaii Invasive Species Awareness Month

May is Hawaiʻi Invasive Species Awareness Month, and this year we’re celebrating the power of collaboration. ʻAʻohe hana nui ke alu ʻia. No task is too big when done together by all.

Invasive species like coconut rhinoceros beetle, little fire ant, and coqui threaten not only Hawaiʻi’s native ecosystems, but also its farms, ranches, and food security. These challenges are too big to face alone, but when farmers, communities, agencies, and partners turn their hands to the land together, meaningful progress becomes possible.

Throughout May, HISAM 2026 will feature webinars, community events, volunteer opportunities, and a statewide awards ceremony on May 29 recognizing the people and partnerships working to protect Hawaiʻi.
