Mahalo nui loa to all of you that joined us in December clearing weeds and outplanting in Wailupe! The rains finally came and our outplants so far are looking happy and healthy! We’ve seen an average of 4ft of growth in our Koa planted last year, it great to see so much progress at this site thanks to many hands. This volunteer trip we will be performing weed control and outplanting Koa and ʻŪlei. We’d love to have you join us!
Meet Time: 9:00am
We will be meeting in Wailupe/Aina Haina valley at Wailupe Loop Trailhead at the end of Hao Street. We will return to the cars around 2:00 pm.
**Please be aware of the noise level and respectful of residents at the entrance to the trail while gathering. It’s fine if you should need to leave early, but you will have to hike back by yourself barring an emergency.
Itʻs a moderate 45min hike, possibly carrying up to 10lbs of plants and a tool. You will need to be able to climb the 4ft ungulate fence that protects the site. Please understand that we strive as much as possible to create a safe environment to mālama ʻāina, but working in the field always carries a level of risk, particularly from heat and falls.
Wear/Bring: At least 3L of water, a long-sleeve shirt, gloves, shoes, and anything else you may need to be comfortable working in the forest for an extended time. We will be planting and performing weed control using various hand tools and chemical control.
