Wailupe Volunteer Workday

Wailupe Valley Exclosure – Volunteer Workdays
This is an event for advanced hikers/volunteers. We will be planting and performing weed control.
It is vital we protect this lowland forest ecosystem!
Come Mālama Wailupe Valley’s native forest!
Itʻs a moderate 45min-1 hour hike, possibly carrying up to 10lbs of plants and a tool. You will need to be able to climb the 4ft ungulate fence that protects the site. Please understand that we strive as much as possible to create a safe environment to mālama ʻāina, but working in the field always carries a level of risk, particularly from heat and falls.
We will be planting and performing weed control using various handtools and chemical control. Please bring at least 3L of water, a long-sleeve shirt, gloves, shoes, and anything else you may need to be comfortable working in the forest for an extended time.
We will be meeting in Wailupe/Aina Haina valley at Wailupe Loop Trailhead at the end of Hao Street. We will return to the cars around 2:00 pm each day. Please be aware of the noise level and respectful of residents at the entrance to the trail while gathering. Itʻs fine if you should need to leave early, but you will have to hike back by yourself barring an emergency.
