Kawainui-Hāmākua Master Plan Final EIS Publication

Posted on Aug 10, 2020

The Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW), in partnership with the Division of State Parks (DSP), has completed the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) for the proposed Kawainui-Hāmākua Master Plan project. This FEIS has been submitted to the Governor for Acceptance determination.

The FEIS was prepared in accordance with Chapter 343, Hawai‘i Revised Statutes and Chapter 11-200, Hawai‘i Administrative Rules pertaining to “Environmental Impact Statements.” The FEIS documents the technical characteristics and likely environmental impacts from the project, and advances findings and conclusions relative to the significance of the action. The Final EIS reflects a reasonable and manageable level of project improvements proposed by DOFAW and DSP that address the project’s need for:

1) natural resource restoration and habitat enhancement;

2) supporting cultural practices and stewardship opportunities;

3) public access for outdoor recreation and educational programs; and

4) resource management.

An electronic copy of this document will be available on the State Office of Environmental Quality Control’s website when the FEIS is published in their August 8, 2020 issue of The Environmental Notice. This electronic copy will be accessible via the link below:
